Because Christianity was determined to wipe out the Pagan beliefs/religions. Pagan religions are based on a dual entity, the goddess and god, yin and yang, black and white, opposites. Female and Male. I'm going out on a limb here, and generalizing, but most all pre-christian religions were indeed based on a dual god, or a goddes... if not a multi god religion, including male and female dieties.
Edit: side note to the person that said that 'sin was introduced'... some say sin was sex, others say sin was disobedience becuase 'god said so', but many believe that sin, eating the apple, from the tree of knowlege, means that she attained knowlege.... research the pagan religions... you'll find that the snake is the simbol of fertility, not evil.
for those that say the bible isn't based on 'covering up' pagan religions, then, explain to me a few things.... why an apple? the apple is the 'fruit of the gods' in some pagan beleifs. Why christmas in december, when it's been traced that jesus was born in March? Because December 21 thru the 24th is the pagan holiday Yule. Why all saints day on November 1st? Halloween on the 31'st? Becuase Samhain is a 3 day pagan festival on the same days. Easter, same thing. Why would God (the christian male diety) word it as "GodS" in the bible multiple times, if he was singular.
But, to each their own. I'm not trying to convert. But, answer. ;)
This is a good question. You, get a star. ;)

I think it is simply an assumption that women were treated as less. The bible covers thousands of years and says almost nothing about women. Women obviously had a different role than men, but that doesn't necessarily mean they were less important, less valued or less happy.
Being equal doesn't necessarily have to mean being the same.
Regarding the Bible, what it says is fact, how you interpret those facts is your own opinion.

Part of it was culture. But mostly, it's because of the curse. Remember back in the very beginning when Eve ate the fruit and gave it to Adam? Part of her curse was that men would rule over women, and even today when women have so many rights and freedoms we can still see that men are in charge. We can't escape it. And man's curse was that he would work his butt off for a living and then die. Nice for both genders eh? *sigh* they don't call it a curse for nothing.
And the other part of it is that men really are stronger than women, both physically and emotionally. Seriously, I belong to a chat group that consists of all women and you can't say anything without someone getting insulted, offended, hurt, angry, or some variation thereof. Even if you state flat out that this is your opinion and you aren't trying to insult anyone they *still* get insulted. It's ridiculous. We are WAY more emotionally soft than men, and it makes it tough to be a leader!
God knows this. After all, He is the one Who made men and women different. We compliment each other - our strengths compliment men's weaknesses and vice versa. Different doesn't mean inferior. I like being different - it's pretty fun (and nothing is sexier than my masculine, rugged hubby! meee-ow). God equipped men to lead. It isn't that men are better or that God hates women - far from it! If you objectively study out God's view of women in the Bible, you will find that God is gentle, loving, and kind towards women. We are to be protected and cherished by our men - NOT because we are mewling little kittens who can't lift a finger, but because we are special.

everyone has their duties, I think it was meant to be equal, it's just men had the lions share of the hard work, protecting the herd and family, he sorta took the leadership position. I don't think the Bible is literal about man being the master of the house as we interpret it, folks always take things out of context....I think the world is at it's utter destruction by men who take this as a fact, it blows their b***** up too much so they can't think, been there!

In Judaism, women are considered to be on a higher spiritual level than men are.
I'm pretty sure it's the opposite, in Christianity.
In Judaism, women are considered to be on a higher spiritual level than men for several reasons. One is, the incident where God tells Abraham to listen to Sarah and do all that she says.
Another is the incident of the Golden Calf, when the men all gave their gold jewelry to make the Golden Calf but the women refused, due to it being idolatrous.
The women were rewarded for this by being given Rosh Chodesh holidays, the start of every new month when it is a day of rest for us, we still observe this to this day.
There are many other reasons as well why women are considered to be on a higher spiritual level than men, in Judaism, but I am out of time and don't have time to write them all.
Does that mean that women can be Rabbis, in Orthodox, traditional Judaism? Nope. Can women wear prayer shawls, tefillin, and make up the 10 man group called a minyan that is necessary for the prayers? Nope, nope, nope. Why is that? Because it has become a very patriarchal religion, under the control of men. Why have women allowed this, is my question.

First of all, where in the Bible does it say that men are ABOVE women? Men are placed in positions of working to supply the welfare of women, and women are placed in a position of helpmate. If you read the whole Bible, it shows that God has no respect of person, in His site we are all equal with varying roles of responsibility.

It wasnt the Bible that was sexist, it was the societies. The biblical teachings must be taken from the context that it was written by people in much diff societies. Up until fairly recently our own societies held men above women.

because of the fact the Son says in result, "to steer, you're able to serve" (Luke 22:25-27) and that i'm confident maximum adult adult males might agree that girls human beings are predicted to serve them. and since the Bibles says, in Jeremiah 31:32, 'And God has created a clean component interior the earth; a woman shall embody a guy'. Now i ask your self what this implies? i think it has something to do with the certainty that collectively as adult adult males have been in can charge of non secular concerns, the full international has been deceived by potential of the devil. ultimately, if God provides any woman understanding and revelation this is for all of His human beings, does that recommend adult adult males can competently ignore approximately Him because of the fact of their gender themes?

Being in a position to lead does not mean you are "above someone". but someone has to lead. Women are more easily deceived that's just the way it is. Women are more nurturing than men. Women are being protected not rejected as leaders, in the bible hierarchy.

Men and women have different roles to play. Men tend to deal with the macro and women with the micro. The Bible deals with the macro...not the micro...so it is going to seem that men are being put above women when in reality it is simply that the Bible was written to the masses...were women tend to get more personal.
