I'll use God as an analogy.
His patience acknowledges that we are all sinners and are in need of mercy.
But He does not tolerate sin because tolerance implies acceptance without resistence.
Every sin offends God and must be repented for. However, in His patience and love He gives us until the moment of our death to repent.

In a religious sense?
Patience means "I am willing to bear with human weakness because I am weak too."
But tolerance means "I don't care what anyone does, right or wrong. Any act is acceptable."
Patience is a virtue. Tolerance is the abdication of absolute morality.
I like Veritas' answer - God is patient but He does not tolerate sin (i.e. He doesn't give us a free pass).

Patience can imply that someone is slow, stupid, and somehow "wrong" for requiring it. Tolerance simply suggests that someone is simply different, not stupid or lacking in some way, and requires someone to act like a grownup, nay, even a HUMAN BEING, when encountering that difference. We are patient with children and animals and others who don't KNOW any better; we are TOLERANT when dealing with our equals.

I think patience just deals with waiting for something to start or be over, which ever one is the case, while tolerance deals with interacting with people.

Not much really. Tolerance is that you are ignoring things or annoying people etc. Patience is that you are patient with annoying people, etc.

Patience is the ability to calmly wait.
Tolerance means you will accept things whether you approve of them or not. Too different things.
