It wasn't even there before Eisenhower put it there. Is it because it would be one step towards America actually living up its claims of "freedom of religion"?

Cause it will make the crazies ... err I mean.. the fundies angry if we return the pledge and the currency to their original forms.

I'm a little queezy about the saying "this is a Christian country". I am Catholic, and it wasn't all that long ago that this saying was understood to mean "this is a Protestant country".

The expression "separation of church and state" has a long history. It does not appear in the constitution, but it DOES appear in statements issued by various Christian groups over the years.

I am less worried about Christianity being shoved down the country's throat than I am worried about US propoganda being shoved down the church's throat. (Judging from the tone of prime time tv, I don't think Christianity is very effective in it's shoving efforts at the moment ;)

I worry about how the attitude of "God and country" is a way for national policy to gain a false legitimacy by appealing to religion. I worry about how such a cozy relationship between church and state undermines the church.

So I would be very happy to see the pledge change back, but for the opposite reason that most people would be.

nicely, the pledge grew to become into in actuality institued as an attempt to repatriotize the electorate. the enormous deal right it is that the pledge is in actuality an oath to stay & obey the ordinances of our us of a and God. I have not have been given any subject following the regulations of the land by potential of why could have could swear an oath to a God that i don't have self assurance in?

I've always thought "One nation indivisible" sounded more like a country I'd like to live in than "One nation under God"

Yay. We are all under God. We can't agree on a damn thing, whether there is even a God or not, or if there is... which one is the right one.

We'll take care of the whole "indivisible" thing after everyone conforms to this God concept.

The big deal is that christian fundamentalists want to turn this country into a 'theocracy' - a "christian theocracy" to be more specific. 'Under God' has no place in the pledge, and what is more, when you say "One Nation" and then "Under God" you have split the nation immediately so it is contradictory. It is a big deal, but the big deal is Why is it in there in the first place? !!!

Here is the true irony. Christians are the ones that want it to stay in the pledge. But should Christians really be pledging allegiance to anyone accept God?

Seems there was never a hoopla about it until Bush got
in and told everyone he is a Christian. If they take it out,
I will still believe in God.

Because The U.S. is getting to the point that its thier agenda before God anymore, they don't know what they are doing, God made this a free country, and we are blessed, if they start shutting God out where do they think those blessings are going to come from. They are after thier own agendas, buckle down and hold on for the ride, because, United States isn't telling us all, but they are blocking God out of alot of things, they wanna fill thier pockets, and they can't do that when others are blackmailing them to do certain things, they have to keep thier seat, they wanna make everyone happy, or at least make it look like they are.

It is imposssible to do that, so they go with the majority, do you think the majority is Christian, nope, and that is why they are knocking these things out, for thier own agenda, but we'll pay for it, I guarantee you.

I think the people having a big fit about it being there are just
well they don't have enough to do with their time obviously.
but it is sort of like those people in the Old Testemant who would not stand on the Lord's side.......ever seen the Ten Commandments? The day of reckoning I believe will soon be here.
