I'm on a student visa and won't be getting married till a year from now. I'm currently a junior, and trying to join the ROTC program. Now the way it would work, is that they'd put me in the SMP with National Guard and ROTC, so they could expedite my citizenship process......

however, is there any way to join the Army or Army ROTC without having a green card?
I hear about illegal immigrants joining on a daily basis, but someone who is legally in the U.S cannot join??

All help is helpful, and if you have any contact info on recruiters who are specialized in my case, please let me know.

pls, don't write and say "you have to have a green card, bla bla bla" I KNOW... i am asking for other solutions....

my issue was about joining before i get married and do the SMP. Because applying for a green card is near to 5k right now. So i'm trying to see if ROTC, or NG can sponsor me for GC, or file it for me for cheap or what not.

Then again you can do SMP as previously stated, get your citizenship as enlisted and, use GI bill to get a BA degree, then join ROTC 'for' a masters degree while getting both drill pay, ROTC contracted cadet stipend (450 for a junior 500 for a senior) etc.

ROTC is for officer candidates and produces 80% of the Army officers each year.

No illegal immigrants enlist in the US military.

You must have a green card to enlist.

There are no waivers.

To join ROTC, you must be a US citizen, to receive a scholarship.

Permanent Legal immigrants( green card holders ) can take ROTC class's.

( but they cannot be commissioned, until they are citizen's ).

Non green card holders, can take ROTC, if they are approved by the Department of State.

Green card holders who enlist, do not get expedited citizenship, unless they deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan or in support of those operations.

If your don't deploy, it still takes three years to gain citizenship.

If you deploy, it is expedited to one year.

Since SMP reservist are prohibited from being deployed, even if you had your green card, that would not expedite your citizenship process.

You have to be a citizen to be an officer or any rank higher than E-6. You can be in ROTC, but they will not give you a scholarship or let you join the Army through them.

You can enlist, they will help you with your citizenship.

Forget ROTC. Finish college, ENLIST in the army and get the tuition repayment option. Gain citizenship while enlisted and use the enlisted tuition assistance program to get your masters during your 4 year enlistment. Then get out and go on with the rest of your life. ROTC is for chumps.

the military will not help you get the Green card. a student visa is NOT sufficient. Besides a Green card wouldn't help anyway.. you must be a citizen to be commissioned.

HOLD ON a second. You are here with an F-1 (student) Visa. The visa you have were granted so you can study here for the duration of your study and return home. That is what you agreed, when you signed up for the Visa.

The "other solution" as you termed it, is actually looking for a loophole in the system.

If you are illegal and willing to continue illegal actions, you can do A LOT of things, since you don't care about the legality of your actions. Yes, you can't do it, and THEY do.
