I once cared for a black Lab called Black Magic, Magic for short.
Good luck on choosing a name. Sometimes it helps just to try out a few on the dog, practice calling it that and see what fits the best, that's how I chose my dogs name, it just fit. Also you have to be able to yell the name out the door and not be embarrassed if the neighbors hear you.

In my opinion, the best name for a black lab puppy would be something like this:
If it was a girl, I would name it Blackberry.
If it was a boy, I would name it Shadow.
