i use this product: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Line-6-TonePort-UX1-USB-Recording-Modeling-Interface-103373676-i1126366.gc

i know its a little more expensive that what ur looking for but its really worth it.

just one little thing: i recommed to use the program Audacity to record instead of the one included in the package. you can get audacity (for free) at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Depends on how into computers you are. The USB interfaces out there can be hard to use. If you want something simple, look at the Tascam DP-01 (there are 3 versions of it, starting at $300 - the DP-01FX is $450). If you are going the computer route - look at the Lexicon models. If you are only recording electric guitar, then look at the Line 6 Tone Ports. www.music123.com and www.musiciansfriend have customer reviews of all this stuff.

Depends on what you really want. I'm a guitarist and music teacher, as well as a computer analyst. But I really hate spending all that time using the computer to record music. So I recently bought a Sony IC Recorder. It's a little mp3 recorder with an interface to the computer. You can make CD quality recording with this little device. It has three separate built in microphone systems. And you once you transer the recording to a computer, you can burn a CD.

I wouldn't go to Target for one thing, (even thought that's one of my favorite stores) I would go to a music store like the Guitar Center or Sam Ash and ask an experts opinion on this subject....you guys may be experts on computers but not musical equipment, so ask an expert.....tell them what you have and what you want to achieve !!!!!!
