Not exactly. You maybe related, but you never really had a "relationship" with them. You don't have to feel bad, but it's still okay to feel bad. I mean, someone died! Seriously it's okay.
Hope this helps! : )

Sure. If someone I know looses a family member, I feel sad. I know what they are feeling because I have lost family members. So if you know someone who knew these relatives, you are allowed to share and understand their sad feelings. You don't have to though, I mean you don't know them, why dwell on it. Grandma lost a sister when she was 11 (that's like 85 years ago) and I feel a little sad, but it doesn't bother me. There are more important things in life, more positive things to dwell on, so I just take the next step. Nothing I can do about it. It was WAY before I was born anyway, so....

There is no right or wrong to that answer.
I felt bad about the death of my great grandmother whom I never met...she died when young and it was a very sad death...
It's like when you go into a cemetery and see all of those babies there...it makes you feel sad, even though you didn't ever know them.
I honestly feel it's perfectly normal.

Yes, you can feel sad for someone else's death that you've never met. But you're talking about feelings here, if you don't feel sad that's OK too.

It's very possible, but not all people do. Don't feel bad because you're not sad, because if you never knew the person, then you haven't really lost anything. I don't really feel sad about the actual death of my grandma, I'm just sad because I never knew her.

You can feel sorry that you didn't get the chance to meet them but not really sad. I often feel sorry for my grandparents for the children they had that died 30 yrs before I was born but I have never felt sad that they died .

Yes, it's perfectly normal to feel the loss because you have an emotional connection. It's just as I feel sad sometimes when people who I grew up with (like Don Knotts on tv), pass away. It reminds us of our mortality and just how short life really is.

Why ?
... thousands of people die every day .. do you feel sad all the time ??
Dry your tears and DO something to help stop needless deaths instead (amazing how we can go overboard for some stupid big fish that gets stuck up the Thames but turn our backs on humans dieing from dirty water, lack of food or stupid wars .. £100,000 down the drain ... and they didn't even cut it up and hand it out to the poor ...)

Of course you can! Why do you think the nation mourned 9/11? It was about all the people that were hurt and killed, not the buildings.
Empathy is a beautiful emotion and keeps us humans decent.

It is a worthy question, but should not over shadow the tragedies of present day events, your own life today will have enough problems to grieve about without adding to things you had no control over years before
