ok so i had my mot test today and obviously by the title of this question it failed. my question is what can i do if i think the guy who did the mot did something dodgy.
i mean he has failed me on the fact the side lights dont work and that the offside front brake disc excessively pitted. now for starters i drove into the test centre with my side lights on as it was raining and they were working perfectly before i went into the test. and secondly, now i have only had my car a few months (renault scenic s reg) but the guy who had it before me had replaced the brake plates and showed me (and i think i still have it somewhere) the receipt for the work that was carried out so if the brake plate was excessivly pitted how could this have happened in the space of 6 months? could the mot tester have changed this whilst doin the mot. aside from this when i took my car out of the station my car didnt sound right and had aquired a new knocking noise to it and the car in general didnt feel safe..

If you are unsure then report it to the local trading standards and they will advise you what to do next.Should be listed in your local phone book under council depts

At the moment you have no real evidence to dispute this mot failure. Ask around your friends and colleagues and get the name of a garage they would recommend. Take your car there and get the necessary work done. A reputable garage will not replace parts if they don't need it. Ask to inspect the faulty parts it is your right to do so. Especially the brake disk. A mechanic will have no problem in showing you where the disk is damaged. You would not necessarily notice this unless the disk is severly damaged. It can be damaged very easily with incorrectly fitted or worn out brake pads. Once you have had the car seen by a trustworthy mechanic you can consider whether or not you have been "done". If you have then trading standards and VOSA will be able to help you.

You may be a bit confused, Sidelight failure could be any of the six bulbs in the system not working.
The guy who had it before you may have changed the brake pads but not the brake discs.
I doubt very much that any dodgy business went on during the mot and would advise you to talk to the person who did the mot and see what sort of response you get back.
If not satified report your garage to VOSA and they will be investigated.

hey there, it really wouldn't be worth a well established business's wile to botch your car they could lose there business over it so i would say it is very highly unlikely they have done anything to your car for the sake of a couple of hundred pounds. as for the lights a fuse could have gone between the time you dropped it off and the test and if the brakes weren't broken in properly then they could be knackerd in six months and it is possible you wouldn't notice anything and still be an mot failure. then again they might be a bunch of robbing b's that seen you coming.

Get your car mot'd at a VOSA (DVLA) test centre, they are usually in the county town. See what they come up with as faults, if any, and then use the V40 or fail slip as evidence to take your garage to the small claims court to get your fee for the dodgy mot back.

Just get the repair's done. The sidelight is nothing, 75 p for a bulb. The brakes, your life depends on them, you will notice the improvement when you get new discs and pads fitted. If you are still not happy, keep the old parts and start a dispute , advice is given on your Test Certificate.

A side light and a brake disc? Just be glad that a 10 year old car didn't fail on anything worse.

Go to a shop and have the brakes inspected and the lighting. It doesn't matter if you were sure they were working they aren't now.

Sve yourself some hassle
Find another garage, but don't tell them of the failure, some have free retests,
put it through with them and you'll have only wasted £30,
I think it's closly monitored, I can't see them trying to fleece you.
