Your average pastor doesn't. However, there are some mega churches where the people in charge are pulling in millions.

While the bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil, I believe it is the love of power is the root of all evil. Money is only a tool. The people who want more power want more money.

Right, but school janitors are doing something extremely useful for society--cleaning and maintaining our school buildings, which are probably our most important public buildings. Pastors are collecting salaries from people for helping them continue to believe in a backward fairy tale. If they want to pay somebody to do that for them, fair enough, but don't be an *** and imply that a pastor's job is anywhere near as important to society as a janitor's is.

Actually, a better translation is --- the love of money is the root of all KINDS of evil. You're right, people get really confused by this --- and I think it's important to note that it is ALL KINDS, not all evil. (Though you're right that people leave off 'love of' and just make it money, often enough).

The literal translation says (Young's Literal --- an invaluable resource)

for a root of all the evils is the love of money, which certain longing for did go astray from the faith, and themselves did pierce through with many sorrows;

So, in other words, it is A root --- not the exclusive root.

If that's true..Why does the pastor at the church near me drive a BMW? He says the money is to fix up the church, but it still has had the same busted window for 3 years.

I think you right, all except the last statement. The average Pastor makes a lot more then that. But the love of money, and not money itself being the problem is right on. Good observation.

excuse me but if pastors don't make that much money than how is possible for Creflo Dollar to own a private jet and 2 rolls royces and have the audacity to ask for money on his webpage for his ministry?

Same with Joel Osteen (who I used to like) he's involved in this prosperity gospel, would not touch a controversial issue to save his life and is living in a millionaires mansion.

I guess camels are passing through the eyes of needles as we speak (type)

these examples of "godly" men have found comfort in money when they should have set more of an example like Mother Teresa

The evil of money comes from the Devil. God wants us to prosper if we are his children. There are some organized religions that abuse the use of money. That is where the evil comes in. His word tells us he wants us to have life and live it more abundantly. You can make just about anything evil in this world if you let the Devil guide you. God provides me with enough money to have my needs--not necessarily my wants. I have a roof over my head, a bed to sleep in, and plenty of food. I don't desire gold or diamonds or a mansion. I live in a house that is over 100 years old. My greatest pleasure is helping those that are in need--especially children and elderly people. If you have excess money--use it wisely--helping those who are in need. Now I don't mean those living on welfare--they need to go to work. I mean the sick and helpless ones that are not able to go to work.

I say your co-worker is the two maximum appropriate...AND an fool ;) the affection of funds is infact the basis of all evil. real. the affection of it rather is incorrect. to cost it over human beings, concepts, values, and so on, is incorrect. Now wealthy anybody is evil? How is that? little ones born into prosperous households are basically born evil i think by potential of her logic. actually it somewhat is basically her subconsious. in some unspecified time interior the destiny in her life, in all threat whilst she substitute into youthful/college, she substitute into jealous of those with funds. As she's gotten older, rather she's found out (greater like resigned) to the certainty that she'll in no way attain that form of earnings, so now all of us with potential to create wealth for themselves is now 'evil'. in basic terms a case of slender-mindedness :)

Money is not a devil the use of money can be devil can be the majesty. Use money to help other definately is majesty. Use money to hurt others or tell other to contribute for ourself not for the public definately is evil. The church useing money to pay for the priests and develope more church or pay more for salary is evil.
