I think that there are many sources in the Bible that depicts women in various religious positions, but I don't hear many preachers, pastors, etc. come out and tell women that they are important to Christian ministry. I feel like they are holding something back. Do you feel the same?

Well, the Bible was written during a time when women were like property. A lot of people are unwilling to overcome that ideology today. I personally believe that both women and men are equally valid and none should have dominion over another. I have a dear friend who is a devout fundie and who will not make decisions based on her own career without her husband's ok. This is completely backwards to me!! She should have as much or even more say than he does because it's HER career!! Same goes for ministry - as I said before, I believe both sexes are equally valid. Even Jesus had female disciples (Mary Magdelene).

I dont think I've heard a single sermon about Deborah the Judge no...but Ruth, Esther, Priscilla, Mary and Martha...there are mentions. Honestly, I think it could be done more but there is a very pervasive spirit of Jezebel that hangs over the church (as it is largely made up of women) that can easily create strongholds in the members. This is not reason to supress women most certainly, but it is cause to tread carefully. Women are naturally going to want to run things...so to fan that flame is to create a wildfire. I have found the fall of two previously prominent women preachers to be particuarly devastating to the church in that women will feel more justified to follow them in error.

But over all, in the BIble...I think that women are esteemed..if not in the OT, definitely in the NT.

Wow, great question. There is an amazing book called "Women's Ministry in the Local Church". It uses Biblical references to example the role that the female plays in the church and how she is vital to the nurture and maturity of the body of Christ. A definite good read!

In my Church the women have their own ecclesiastical organization, the Relief Society. We meet together weekly and concentrate on the ways we can serve others. We teach of the both the outstanding men and women who have brought the light of Christ to others.

What? It clearly states in the Bible that a woman is not supposed to speak in church and if she has a question to ask her father or her husband!
