Don't buy one, rescue one instead, it will be cheaper and you will be giving a dog a good home.

Do an online search for a chi rescue in your area and try Petfinder.com for one.

Plenty of great chis in need of homes through no fault of their own, here's your chance to help one and have a great pet.

It isn't the price of the dog that is expensive. It is the food, up keep and veterinarian bill that costs. I just had my Chihuahua's teeth cleaned for $125.00. Two years ago I had teeth pulled and cleaned for $380.00. Monthly heart worm pills $15.00 or $65.00 for 6 months. Rabbies shots $25.00 a year. Everytime they get sick at least $100.00. Trim toe nails $20.00.

Sometimes they have a mishap on the floor. $6.00 for carpet shampoo and after awhile you just get the carpet cleaned professionally.

I love my Chihuahua but he is like having a baby all over again. He always wants in my lap. He wants on the bed with me. He wants to ride in the car everytime I go some place. He is a one person dog. When I leave him he is traumatized and stays mad at me for a few hours. He thinks every toy made belongs to him. The words "bad dog" breaks his heart and he mopes around and shows the white of his eyes. Almost as if he is crying. He is not afraid of anything. He'd take on a pit bull and die trying to get the best of him. He thinks he is a big dog. What an attitude! Very protective of me, the house and the yard. Just a great little dog with a great big heart.

Usually they are a relatively expensive breed. Generally the more difficult it is to breed the more expensive the pup. Chihuahuas have a high level of problems in pregnancy and especially in giving birth. They also tend to produce few pups per litter so pushing up the price.

As other people said, it depends on the breeder. You could adopt one for as little as 100 dollars though. I dont have a Chihuahua, but I got my dog from a GREAT breeder and she cost over 2000 dollars. It just depends on what you are looking for though.

It varies. If you get it from a shelter, it can be as little as $40, with shots and spay/neuter included. A breeder can be up to $2000 (I'm not kidding). Get one from a shelter, you would be saving a life, and they are actually usually in better health than ones from some breeders. Chi's from breeders (not all breeders, but some) are more prone to knee cap problems, and skeletal problems.

It depends on how greedy the breeder is. I bought two chis, one from Kentucky and another from Quebec on this site:
www.chihuahuapalace.com Both are healthy and have great dispositions. The prices are very reasonable.

It varies, just depends on the breeder. Mine was only $200, but I know people who have paid more than that for one, and I know people who have paid less.

Depends on where you buy it. Can range from $300.00 to $800.00. What would be great is if you would rescue one! Much less expensive.
