There are many, and new ones pup up every day.

Some I would run from
CKC-Continental Kennel Club
APR or APRI-American Pet Registry Inc-created and ran by puppymills who couldn't AKC register and wanted cheaper prices to register.

There are plenty more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head

Mmmmmm, not quite.
UKC (united kennel club) is in fact older than the AKC, and has some outstanding programs, especially for performance events.
The "Stud Book" (yes that is the name of the registry) is the oldest registry in the US and is very respected, especially with old pointer/setter breeds and hound breeds. (if you think AKC rules are tough, try to get your dog listed in the Stud Book)

The ONLY valid one in the United States is the AKC - that is the only registry that will enable you to show your dog and the only legitimate registry.

The CKC, if it is in the U.S. is a made up registry by poor breeders who cannot get their pups registered and are conning buyers.
CKC in Canada is the equivalent of the AKC - but not in the U.S.

Don't be fooled, only AKC is legitimate here.

Tom, I believe the AKC was founded in 1884, and the UKC in 1898, making the AKC slightly older.

In any case I agree that the only legitimate registries in North America are the AKC & UKC (USA) and CKC (Canada).

There are a lot of scam ones, like the Continental KC. But there are only the AKC and Canadian KC that are reputable registries.
