Why can't you taste anything when you have a cold?

Your sense of taste is very closely connected to your sense of smell. So when your nose is blocked up, you won't taste much.

because in order to taste you have to be able to smell and when you have a cold your sense of smell is disrupted by the sinuses being blocked.
