Lets say you take up all the dirt and rocks and vegetation of a holy place and moved it somewhere else, leaving nothing but a hole that is one mile deep in the original location. would the holy land now be the new place where you put the dirt and rocks and vegetation or the old location with the hole?

whatever answer you pick, when nations fight over lands they consider holy, does this question help illuminate how silly that is?

And for how long is it "holy"? Ten thousand years? Twenty? Only as long as people remember? And how many "holy" locations can the earth handle? The Black Hills and other locations used to be "sacred" to the native Americans... is that the same thing??
I wish people would just realize that it's just rocks and dirt. There is nothing more special about one spot of earth than another.
Just my opinion.

And why did I post after that freakin' book?...

cecrops9, The holy land is the part of land in Jerusalem that is coveted by 3 of the major religions of the world. The Christians want it because it is where Christ was put on the cross. The Jews want it because God promised them land of milk and honey in the Old Testament. And the jews figure that Israel is that land. The muslims want it because that is where the prophet Mohammad was raised unto God, or Allah. Hope this helps, J

What makes the holy land holy is G-d.
G-d is the one whom designated it as the holiest place on earth, even before the Jewish Temple stood in Jerusalem.
It is the place where the binding of Isaac took place, where the Torah was given to the Jewish nation, where the prophet Elijah rose to heaven, where Jacob had the his dream, where Adam, Eve, Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Isaac, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah are all buried.
I can go on and on, but my lunch break is almost over:)

The holiness is not the dirt , it's the location .

No such thing. Only dogmatic people think they can ascribe holiness. It's like saying that the sandal that Jesus wore is holy. We are holy but you wouldn't know it from the way we treat each other.

What makes a land Holy is: That is where Jesus was born, and traveled. Also, to, it was where God showed Moses where Israel would be.
