i'm confused on this idea that people make a choice to be gay. the reasoning given is that it is not natural because only men and women can procreate. this idea just seems to open a whole can of worms of side topics though. first on the issue of gayness being a choice, to say that would imply that heterosexuality is a choice as well. and if that's the case you can't really argue that heterosexuality is natural. i don't believe nature is open to choice. example, if i drop a ball, the natural thing for the ball to do is fall to the ground. the ball does not have a choice. on the argument that only male/female couples can procreate, shouldn't this statement be reworded? it is a rather broad field. why not just go one step further and say only humans can create humans? so two humans of the same sex can create another human. of course not. only a man and a woman can create another human? of course not. only a potent man and a fertile woman can reproduce? yes.

if what is natural is only determined by what combination can reproduce, then it appears that many more couples, aside from gays, are going against god's will.

jinenglish, doesn't the bible say that it's just as wrong to have an impure thought as it is to act on it? how do you prevent a thought when you were born to think that way? can you prevent everything you think?

Everything you said was well-thought out, and every word of it makes complete sense. I try on a regular basis to make my grandparents understand this, but it doesn't work.

Edit: To clarify some of the misinformation in the answers of some of the other posters, the actual incidence of homosexuality is somewhere around 10 to 15%.

We have different tendencies and sometimes we get confused because the environment. Like if a girl like to learn how to fix cars, does that make her a gay?People are likely to call her " Dyke " etc. Or when a boy is real beautiful and has " girly " characteristics, he will hear from the child on " You are too pretty to be a boy " or "He walks like a girl " or " He must be gay "

We need to be more careful with this stuff. Many gay people have had some kind of same sex molestation in the back ground. Or they live in the family where the mother is unrepented man hater or father being critical of a boy who does not want to be a football player, or boy cannot throw the baseball like Father wants etc.

We can honor God out of obedience but it is harder to do if we have already given up to the homosexual life style. God forgives.

The real % for gays is 1. Only 1 %. And their life style is not that great. It is not God's design for us. But if you are gay, you still need God for your salvation if you want to be saved. God loves us equally. Luckily we are not saved by how obediendt we are. We are saved by the mercy and grace of God.

Of course a ball dropped in gravity will fall toward the gravity source (in the case of dropping it on earth, that means it falls down).

But the idea that people choose to be gay is sad and destructive. There are many thousands, perhaps millions, of people who are gay but force themselves into heterosexual lifestyles because their religions tell them it's "sinful" or worse "evil."

Because they have been taught how "evil" they are, there are many, many of these poor souls that shun their families -- many teens run away constantly -- become drug-addicts, suffer from severe depression, and occasionally commit suicide.

Nature is not evil and should not be forced to choose.

I hate the "it's not natural" argument. If nature made something, doesn't that by definition make it natural?

the choice is, and will continue to be, whether or not you choose to engage in a sexual relationship with a person of the same gender.

everyone sins. If you ask God to forgive those sins, and make an honest effort not to repeat those sins, that (in my opinion) will sit well with the Lord. As you have admitted, just because something appears "natural" doesn't mean it's not a sin.

I think the typical (and informed) answer goes like this:

Gay people may have the urge or tendency towards it... but that is because this is a fallen world. Those people should resist that sin, just as somebody resists lying, killing, stealing, etc.

People do or do not have a choice to be homosexual or heterosexual. But they do have a choice with whom they will have sex with. Being gay is not wrong...acting on it is wrong..and not natural...
