I am mainly concerned with the weight of the bike and the components so... from what I've gathered so far I think the Trek 4500 WSD or the women's Specialized Rockhopper? Any other suggestions to look at?

Your 2 choices are good, but you will get better components for the same or less money if you look at a K2 or an Iron Horse. Iron Horse and K2 is often seen at big box sporting goods stores but they are often DIFFERENT from those at bike shops... go to a bike shop.

REI's Novarra Brand packs great components in a relatively cheap product. I own two Novarras that were way below bikes with big names and similar components. Their almost indestructible.

How tall are you? If you're a tall girl, probably you could go with a standard frame rather than a WSD. Test ride both to see how they fit you.
