If you believe a truck is coming, you will jump out of the way. that is belief in the reality of the truck. if you tell people you believe in the truck, but do nothing to get out of the way, that is not belief in the truck. likewise, it is not belief to say god exists, and then continue sinning and hoarding your wealth while innocent people die of starvation. when belief does not control your most important decisions, it is not belief in the underlying reality, it is belief in the usefulness of believing.
people claim to believe in god, but most don't literally believe. they only act as though they believe because there are earthy benefits in doing so. they create a delusion for themselves because it makes them happy.

Reminds me of an old saying...
"Anyone who has two shirts when someone has none is not a christian." - Lenny Bruce
...
Thanks Jeff S for providing me with the correct quote :)

Not even close to how I believe. No acting or looking for earthy benefits here. My love for God is the most powerful feeling I've ever experienced and yes, that does make me happy in many different ways.

i believe in GOD and that he gives me and brings in my life everything that i have i don't have a job cause of some medical reasons but i am living with my grandparents and they dont pay or buy all my stuff like some people think, i try and make my won way and GOD makes it happen,i try to help other people as much as i can and if it wasn't for GOD then i would prouble be on the streets right now , but as for the ones that say they believe then put on the front all they want is to feel like they know what is going on and what will happen when the last day comes.

Your reasoning does not hold water because God's streets are paved with gold in heaven. Yet Jesus said the poor will always be with you. Should one nation who has accepted God's ways share all they have with a nation that despises that same truth. The same is true for families. Some families are richly blessed because they have obeyed God's plans. Others have defied Him and have not prospered. The only obligation the rich family has is to help the poor family live decently while they share the truth of God with them. They are not required to balance everything . And what about people who have gotten rich dishonestly(there are many). Should they also share their wealth? Who will be the judge as to how much is enough? Government projects for minorities frequently result in trashed neighborhoods with high crime rates. It is better to train people to take care of themselves than to give them handouts indefintely. If they refuse to change it is their own choice.

It doesn't describe me.
I believe in God, and more specifically in the deity of Jesus Christ.
I strive to live a life consistent with my Christian beliefs. I frequently fall short (don't get out of the way of the truck), but I believe that through Jesus, I am forgiven (Jesus pushes me out of the way of the truck).
I'm sure that many so-called Christians will lambast you for this post, but I won't. My faith compels me to treat everyone with unconditional love and unconditional respect, whether or not they agree with my beliefs.

You obviously are not referring to the Christians I know. Do you give over 20% of your (pre-tax) income to charitable organizations for feeding children?
I know of thousands of churches full of ordinary people some rich some poor who give over 20% of their income to charity.
Do you think they believe in the truck?

i agree in part but Jesus is still waiting for the fruit of our lives to mature. are u yourself following CHRIST to the extent that you wont reject knowledge u read just because its not popular to do so?
IF u yourself refuse to read links posted are u any different then those who claim to love Christ but by their actions in actuality deny him?
before u throw stones at others make sure you don't live in a glass house that reveals your life to all , as far as remnant goes, just what is it? i mean is it any different then the beginning of something? lets look at the apostles lives when did the y worship and how ? if we indeed want to be the last part should we not also follow what the first church did?? a remnant has to be exactly like the first part am i correct?, have we allowed traditions to block our sight of how and when the first church that JESUS SEPARATED AS HIS WORSHIPED?,ARE U am I FOLLOWING the commands as the first church did?? mj

That's from that little novella he wrote that you can download for free, right? Where he postulates that the only thing that would be of interest to god would be to see how the universe would turn out if he ceased to exist?
That was an interesting read....

Christians are human and most try to "jump out of the way of the truck." Sometimes we make it, sometimes we don't, but most of us do try. We're don't claim to be perfect, we claim to be Christians.

I love what you wrote. The bible speaks that only a remnant, a tenth are his, and then there is another portion who has not known him. this number can be between 7% (year 2000) and nearly 100%)
Every desire that is within me attempts to correct myself and help guide the blind in Christ before I show myself to the unbelieving man. Bless you for posting this, and understand he alones judges man.
