I have had two cats living on my front porch for about a month... they just appeared one day when I got home and they have stayed ever since. Because winter is coming, we are thinking about taking them inside. Please give me some suggestions!

Thank you everyone who has posted so far! I will take your advice... and we know where the cats came from, and they said we could keep them. Thanks again!

Of course, bring them inside! You will want to have them neutered as soon as possible to prevent them from spraying and multiplying. (Even females sometimes spray.) Also, you'll want to have them vaccinated and tested for feline leukemia.
They are lucky to have found you.

Well, if you are seriously considering taking in these cats I would first run down to the vet and pick up a couple of flea treatments to put on them now. That way, when you bring them in the house they should be flea free. Do you have other cats? Would want to get them tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV before bringing them in.
Vaccines and an intestinal parasite check would be a good idea as well. And of course spay and or neuter both.
Now, in my personal opinion, cats have a better life (safer, free of diseases and trauma) inside than outside cats. That being said, these cats might not adjust to being inside cats. Its something you would have to try.
Good luck and its nice you are concerned about them

If you can you should take them inside, keep them in one small room for starters and make sure that they have easy access to food water and litter box (keep food and water as far away from the litter box as possible). Introduce them to the litter box, if they are really stray cats, they may not have ever used it before. Try a litter that does not have a perfume or scent (world's best Cat litter or Wheat Scoop.)They'll need a visit to a vet to be sure that they are healthy, and you should really have them spayed and/or neutered. Please don't be frustrated with them if they are not perfect at first. Here is some reading material. Good Luck

If you are truly thinking about it , you should get them a check up at the vet . Make sure they dont have any massive ring worms or a crazy flea infestation . These are things you dont want to have inside your house . If you cant afford that , at least give them the flea bath of there life , from your local petsmart or walmart you should be able to get some flea dip shampoo. Clean the little freaks up , make sure they are friendly , cat bite are the dirtiest and can give you major infections if not treated .

Cats are resilient to living outside, but if you want to bring them inside, make it gradual. Let them go in and out at their leisure for a day or two. Maybe have a room just for them so they feel secure. Also, they may not be litter trained, and that's a new hurdle...
Good luck!

If you want to keep them, make sure you take them to the vet first thing. They could have feline HIV since they have been outdoor cats. I would also post something in the newspaper about two missing cats and see if anyone claims them; it hurts to lose a pet.

If you are going to bring them in I would take them to the vet first, having them checked out to make sure they are healthy. Buy a few scratching posts to save your furniture's. Get them fixed if possible to make sure they don't spray on the walls or what not.. Best of Luck
