I'm all for it, but is it inbedded in Nascar writing somewhere. Don't get me wrong, it's great. Just wondering. Is it along the same lines as congress offering prayers. Don't ask?

The invocation is given to ask God to protect the participants and fans. It's tradition from the old days that we still respect today. I think more sporting events should practice this. You just never know when your number is up, it sure doesn't hurt to have the man upstairs looking your way before the start of a a risky sport.

If you do not have a problem with it, you should leave it alone. If enough bleeding heart liberals get involved this, it will soon become illegal.

I don't think it's mandated in any sort of NASCAR rules, but I think it's a great thing. NASCAR is one of the most dangerous sports out there. Asking God to watch over the drivers is a smart idea, regardless of whether the drivers believe in God or not. If I'm out there racing at 150+ mph, I want all the help I can get if I get into a wreck!

EDIT: Andrew P.... I'm not bringing politics into NASCAR. I'm saying leave the prayer thing alone or else the politicians will screw things all up.

The way i think about it is that Nascar is a very dangerous sport and the drivers can get into some pretty bad situations, so i think its just so the Nascar family and all the Nascar fans can pray for all the drivers to have a safe race!!!! I think its great because you just never know what can happen in a race!!!

Here is my take. NASCAR came from the Southern States in the U.S.A.. Much of that area is Christian by faith, so much so it is often referred to as the Bible Belt of the U.S.. NASCAR is a very dangerous sport and people do die or are severely hurt during the races. So if you are a religious person and are about to do something extreamly dangerious you might want to take 2 minutes first to beg God to let you get through it unhurt.

I don't know if there is any NASCAR written rule, probably much more of just a tradition over time.

Now some of this is funny too because NASCAR started from guys running illeagal moonshine and running from the cops. So it's kind of funny to see that they have this tradition.

It is tradition---Not just in Nascar but every race track Ive ran at has prayer or Innvocation. I still drive at 2 local tracks and they have Prayer Friday night and Saturday night--So it doesnt have anything to do with Nascar being ran on Sundays 95% of the time. Been this way for years!!!!

It's one of those things that they have been doing for years. Also the awesome support they show for the USA. It happens at all the local tracks too. Nascar or racing of any type is a very dangerous sport and people can & do die. I hope they never ever do away with it because of pressure from all the PC nuts out there.

Its part of Nascar tradition..Its a dangerous sport, its just a comforting feel having a blessing from above for a safe race for the driver and teams and their families, and the fans as well... I hope they never do away with it..

I have never been to any track, local or commercial for any kind of race where there wasn't a prayer before the start. It is a very respectable, time-honored tradition to ask for God's blessings and protection.

NASCAR is a rather Christian organization, they have services every Sunday for the drivers/crews to attend before the race, banquets are started with an invocation, etc. It is not in the rulebooks that I am aware of.
