I think the question is rather obvious.

If you gain the world and lose your soul then you have profited whatever the return is that you've received on your investment.

SH*T, I just realized that people are probably not going to comprehend my post.

OH WELL. GET OVER IT.

He will gain an extraordinarily brief reign, and then an eternity is utter darkness, loneliness and despair. In perspective, it is no deal.

Jesus faced this temptation (Matt 4:8-10):

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."

Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

Jesus, the most brilliant man history has ever known, could have been Caesar and rule a vast empire. He could have led armies and conquered the world like Alexander, or later Muhammad. Many a lesser man, from Napoleon to Hitler, Mao, and Stalin has achieved similar dominion.

Instead, Jesus chose a penniless, itinerant ministry to the poor in a remote, impoverished colony. As a result, he has had far more influence in this world that any other human, and he reigns forever in the world to come.

Cheers,
Bruce

All I could think of that the world could ever give me was hair plugs for my receding hairline. But I would forego that, and other things the world has to offer, for a seat on God's royal court.

Your soul is important. People can get so caught up in this materialistic overindulging society, that they can disconnect from their soul, to quite a degree. People can really dull their spiritual senses and intuitions, and lose the ability to be inspired by God. They won't lose their soul completely, and I believe they in this life, or a future life, will have to pay the price for geting so disconnected. I believe in reincarnation.
