Almost half a million veterans were homeless at some point last year.Is that how the "great" america supports it's soldiers?
Why this story is found on UK news and not on every american news channel?

Actually this is being broadcast throughout the United States today. I've heard it about five or six times on various media sources.

And yes, the way we treat our veterans is an absolute disgrace. If I see a person in uniform, or wearing a ballcap with their military units, I will pick up the tab on their coffee or beer. It's not much, but it's the least that we should do for these guys.

In the US I would like to see Congress pass the following laws concerning vets: 1. For every year of service each veteran would have his/her federal income tax reduced by 5% for the rest of his life. 2. Spouses, children and parents of any military personnel killed in the line of duty will never have to pay taxes again (they've given enough for this country and I'm ashamed that our government asks for more). 3. The veterans hospitals are a joke, they should be the best in the country.

The US does have some very good benefits for the troops however. The GI Bill will pay for you to get your college degree and the VA Home Loan is a great way to buy a first home.

I'm a veteran, the thing that really burns me up is the VFW,(I'm a life member of) & the American Legon, you would think these organizationst would be the biggest supporters of Vets and making the loudest protest about issues you have just mentioned - instead when ever the Pres. wants to make some military statement he goes to one of these Orgs. and makes a speech, you see the big logo with flags and all thoes starie eyed vets with, "Oh-our commander & chief," instead of some hard nosed confrontations about issues just mentioned. Makes me madder then h--l.

before you go getting uppity, more than 60% of the people who claim to be vietnam veterans on the street were never actually in the military. The other day I saw a gentleman in his mid forties on the street holding a sign that said "vietnam vet." See, that's the problem with numbers... numbers lie when people feel the need...

(for those who don't know, a person in their mid forties is not nearly old enough to be a vietnam vet)

#1 I never believe anything that's in the BBC news when it's about the US cause they just don't know what they are talking about.

#2 the BBC is over run with Muslims and you know how much they hate the US over there.

#3 the Veterans Administration provides sleeping rooms for any vet all they need do is apply so if there are that many, they chose to be that way.

i'm marrying an Army medic (and i'm prior Air Force) so it'll all be in the family:) i believe all those who are serving and have served should get recognition, so make sure to tell all those people Happy Veteran's Day this weekend!

America tries to cover up our problems but I agree... we need to take care of our vetrens because they shouldn't be repayed for their services by being homeless and unsupported by fellow American citezens. I'm 17 years old but I still go to rallys and I'm an advocate for VA (Vetrens' Affairs) and I think more Americans need to support them and not just dump them into the street like trash...

I married one (my wife) and she married one (me) and we have 5 kids (1 veteran and 2 serving on active duty, one in Iraq). I always make it a point to thank all veterans for their service to our country and treat them all with well deserved respect.
