I'd like to try a Booda Dome litter box. My husband wants one of the automatic litter boxes, but I heard they're not good for multiple cats and the rake can get a little messy. What do you think?

We have some BIG cats and they found the Booda Dome too small. The smaller cats seemed fine with it, but it just was not big enought for the TALL ones. We still have it and use it without the lid.
We had NO luck with the automatic ones. Any more than two cats and I think it is over- worked.

I have a booda dome for my two cats, we all love it. We have been using it for about 2 years. The dome offers them the privacy they want and it keeps the unsightly litter hidden from view. It is easy to clean you just lift the lid and scoop. I have considered an automatic box but I am concerned that the mechanical mechanism may scare the cats and cause them to stop using it altogether. If you don't mind scooping I would try the Booda dome, it is the best I have used! I also really like Fresh Step cat litter, it has carbon in it and really helps eliminate litter box odors. Good Luck!!!

We have a small cat (less than 5 pounds) and we have used the large Booda Dome that has the ramp up the side and we now have the smaller Dome and us and the cat loved them. So they do make a bigger one for bigger cats. We have been using this brand for about 3 years and won't get another. The electric boxes get poor reviews. Search them out online. Plus it is a 50/50 chance on if your cat will even use one due to the noise and motion of it.

I have not used the Booda Dome, but I do have the ScoopFree box. I have two cats. I have been using it for over a year without a single problem. Most people will use one box for 4 cats. If you have more than 2 cats you really need more than 1 box. I am attaching a link to a fantastic website I am on. They have answers about every litter box you can think of.

I've had a regular Booda dome and I now have the Booda with the stairs (we call it the "Taj Mahal"). I have two kitties, one of whom just outright REFUSES to squat. I use swheat scoop litter and have very little mess and the kitties get some privacy. Both of my cats seem to like it, and the domes have a charcoal deodorizer on the roof, so not only do you not have to look a poo, you don't have to smell it (much).

my cat is about 11 lbs and the both the Booda Dome as well as the Booda Clean Step were too small for him

automatic litter boxes are very expensive and alot of cats won't even use them because of the noise they make (scary for a cat)
besides that alot of them don't clean as well as they say in the advertisements
for example, read these product reviews of what people think of their automatic litter boxes:
http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2755048&cp&kw=automated+littered&sr=1#RatingsDetail

most of the people hated the litter boxes because either their cat wouldn't use it or because it didn't keep the litter clean

for mulitple cats you should really have one litter box per cat:
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/article.cfm?dept_id=0&siteid=1&acatid=209&aid=752
excerpt from article on Dr. Foster & Smith, 'How to breed harmony in a multiple cat household':
"In a multiple cat household, cats need to have more than one community litter box. Ideally, there should be one more litter box than the number of cats. Each cat should have access to his or her own box, with at least one litter box on every floor and easy to get to in an emergency. Make sure that each litter box is scooped daily, or even more as necessary."

I know it sounds crazy, but I actually use a Rubbermaid under the bed storage box for my cat's litter box:
similar to this one:
http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/product.jhtml?prodId=HPProd100222
I line it with a garbage bag and fill it with 2 inches of litter;
I scoop it twice a day (although it really only needs to be scooped once, I like to be through).
It's larger than any litter box that I've found for a cat, and when I have company I can slide it under my bed or couch so people don't have to see it
there's no lid, but the sides are high enough that the litter isn't all over my floor
and if you use a good clumping litter and scoop at least daily, then there is no smell to worry about

hope this was helpful!

automatics are good for no more than two cats. They work well with scoopable litter in fact thats what you use with them.
