am i missing something here?

The name of their church is the church of JESUS CHRIST of latter days saints, right?

how are they NOT christian when they have "jesus christ" in the title of their church?

If you believe in Jesus Christ, you are a Christian. That's the basic definition anyways. why are people so nitpicky?

my point is they believe in jesus christ. for all you who are being smart-alecks, it has more to do than the name of the church. they believe in jesus...therefore...they are christians. it's not that hard.

The question is not so much one of christianity as it is of interpretation and trinity....LDS are christians.

Edit: nay nay: not true - we also have sister missionaries and older missionaries as well - some who go as married couples and some who are widowed and go out alone.

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 30 years, and have always considered myself a Christian. I read the Old and New Testaments, I study the life of Jesus Christ, I study the teachings of Jesus Christ, I pray to Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. We do believe that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins, and is the Savior of this world. I have a hard time understanding why anyone would think that we are anything other than Christian. I was born and raised a Christian, and could never been anything else.

There are many misunderstandings about the Church. Some think that women have no say in how the Church is run. That is not true. Women have an equal say. And, women are in charge.

Polygamy seems to be a major problem for some people. Considering that polygamy is illegal in this country, and in most countries, Mormons do not practice it. Men have only one wife.

We certainly are Christians. It is also true that we teach a different Jesus than most Christians teach. We teach the Jesus of the Bible and NOT the Jesus that the Council of Nicaea came up with.

We believe in Jesus Christ who is Savior of the world. Everything we do is centered on Him. The church is named after Him and active members live their lives dedicated to Him. You can't get more Christian than that.

I read a lot of negative comments about the Book of Mormon here. I wonder how many people who say those things have ever even READ it from cover to cover. That is like someone who has never read the Bible to say that there is no way it contains the words of God.

If you interpret Deuteronomy 4:2 the same way that many choose to interpret the verse in Revelations then it says that no one can add to the writings of the Bible after Moses........and Moses was the first Author of the Bible. You can't really have it both ways. It's also worth pointing out that most Christians believe in a Trinitarian creed that's been "added to the Bible. That said, our 9th article of faith is very clear on this subject: We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. We believe in the Bible We believe in the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrine and Covenants. The "For the Strength of Youth" brochure can also be considered scripture for us. Let me point out one of the problems with this train of thought. Moses taught truth, right? So was Joshua preaching "another gospel" when he taught things that Moses didn't teach? What about Isaiahs? What about all of the other Prophets that followed? What about Christ? What about the apostles after Christ's death? No where in the Bible does it say "This is all of the revelation that you'll have. There won't be any more. There won't be any clarifications". The Bible is a book that was written and compiled over about 3000 years. It changed with each additional author. THAT is the Biblical pattern. Frankly a static Book with no Prophets is frankly quite unbiblical. There have been some revelations that have come through modern prophets that have been very exciting. The revelations about the priesthood (D&C 89 I think). The additional revelations about the afterlife (D&C 76). Christ's work among the dead after his crucifixion (D&C 136-138). These teachings do not contradict, but rather augment, Biblical truths. I suspect that you'll get a number of responses from people quoting Journal of Discourses and a myriad of other sources that are simply not LDS doctrine and never have been. God bless.

I would say the definition of christian is one who believes in AND FOLLOWS Jesus Christ as the Savior and Son of God. If you attend a mormon church, you'll notice the teachings of Christ are central in their meetings. If you know any mormons very well, you'll know that they do indeed follow the teachings of Christ in their lives.

Rob (poster above me) kind of went off the deep end there - none of that belongs in a single post on an internet discussion board, especially for the question that was asked here. The only response I would bother to make to his ramblingsg is- the name of "mormon" is only properly applied to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka Mormon, LDS) and I consider myself to be a follower of Jesus Christ. I really don't care if others think that I am or not. The only opinion I'm truly concerned about is Jesus'. I try to follow His example and keep His commandments. I fall short a lot, but I keep trying. If that isn't Christian I don't know what is.

I like your logic.

yes Mormons are Christian

Now do we follow Christ and do other Christian denominations follow Christ?

This is more individual, I know many Mormons and other Christians who are not Christ-like and I also know atheists who seem to follow Christ in at least goodness.

Anyway Mormons believe in Christ and are Christians.

At the risk of being violated again, I guess the 'goody two shoes' christians, don't think the LDS Christians, are as good as they are.
My understanding is that a follower of Christ, is a Christian.
Mormons follow Christ. therefore they are Christians.
Those 'other christians' need to get a life, and then grow up, and then, keep their opinions to themselves.
Those 'other christians' are always saying how Christ like they are? Well maybe they should start acting like it.

Mormon's aren't liked because historically, they are the "newest" sect within Christianity, very young time wise. Also because Jesus was "supposed" to be the last prophetic voice.

Also, in their pamphlets they give out, which I just read the other day when a girl came to my door and gave me one, they claim that Christian followers lost their way and teachings the moment that followers started arguing over Jesus' teachings and theological meanings. SO they are saying that for thousands of years, Christians have lost thier way...I wonder if they accept Muhammed as a prophet?

They claim somewhat of an apostolic succession, and that when the world is ready a new prophet comes back to try to redirect followers - which was Joseph Smith - alot of the Christian world "hates" them because it is considered that Jesus was the last prophetic voice..even though scholastically speaking, that isn't necessarily true.

I have to agree with you though...why can't there by more prophets leading us to God? Does it really matter, as long as you believe and are a moral upright person?

I guess it depends on ones concept of who Jesus Christ is.

I believe that Jesus was the God-Man that took upon Himself the things that separate us from a perfect GOD. Since it was a MAN that lost all of it, it also had to be a man to retrieve it. Just because someone believes about the man part of Jesus does not make them a Christian (not to say that is what they believe). Being a Christian also involves believing what the word itself implies. That it is Christ In Me. That is what a Christian is. Thats what I am.

God Bless.

They believe Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit ARE SEPERATE Gods but work together in unity, and that true believers can be Gods, as well as many odd beliefs that are truly unbiblical.
(JUST SO YOU KNOW AND YOU'RE NOT CONFUSED:When people say Mormons have more than one wife, this is not really true. Members of the biggest Mormon church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints, are allowed to ONLY have one. Members of fundamentalist groups that broke away from the Church most of the time do believe in polygamy.)
I could name many unbiblical things of the Mormons...
Just read up on them. Many sites out there, some a little exaggerated...
