I'm getting my dining room painted and the guy is charging $100 to fix a bad drywall job and $125.00 to paint the room. This does not include supplies. He says he will buy them and they should run between $70-$90. Should I buy the paint myself ? Also do you guys think the price is fine?

The room is about 11x15. He is only painting the walls, no trim or ceilings. The wall has some tape showing and some rough patches that he's fixing.

Not a bad price, but be sure he gives you a "not to exceed $___" amount for everything. You shouldn't be charged for anything other than paint, joint compound, roller covers, masking tape, primer, etc. Don't pay for paintbrushes or any tools that he isn't going to leave with you when he's done. Good price otherwise.

If she's more of an acquaintance than a close friend, sure, pay her something like the suggested $50. If she's a good friend, or perhaps a neighbor, however - who did not asked to be paid - I'd suggest a gift certificate, or a bottle of wine and a box of good chocolate, etc., and most certainly a nice thank-you card a week later. If I was that person, I'd then feel more like a friend and less like you were keeping me at a distance, as an "employee". When the paint is on, if she takes down the tape, pulls the covers, cleans the brushes, and genrally gets things nice, she's a "keeper". Then don't forget a big hug, and look for an opportunity to be there for her someday.

it depends on how much work there is to do to repair your drywall. $225 for labour is way too cheap with a price like that i would question the quality of this guys work. you don't give alot of info as far as what needs to be painted. is it ceiling walls and trim? just a rough estimate but if i was doing it i would be charging closer to $700 plus materials but again it depends on how big the room is and what exactly needs to be done.
