If they are cheap, it's probably because they are from a BYB (backyard breeder). Pits are oftentimes bred by people that don't have a clue what they are doing. They just figure since they have registered dogs, they should breed them and sell the puppies. It's sad. I live in West Texas where the paper is almost half pit bulls in the pets ads.

They are cheap because they are the new "dog of the day". Most popular breeds go through a phase like this where they are the "thing to have" and thus there is a HUGE influx of them into the market. Since there are so many, people who do not have the quality to back it up (back yard breeders or puppy mill type breeders usually), lower their prices to sell their substandard dogs. These substandard dogs then go on to breed and create the health problems that run rampant in other popular breeds (hip/elbow issues in labs & goldens, aggression & anxiety in cockers and dalmations, etc...)
Blue pits are no more special that any other color, and because they are so popular now, they are easier to find than alot of the so called "traditional" colors. People who have or breed for blue coloring have taken the liberty of making them the phenomenon they are, and as such seem to think that they should be more expensive. What you should pay for is the quality of the dog, not the color, but the same way pits are the new dog to have, the color of pit that is "cool" is blue. Unfortnately, the dogs are the ones who will suffer for it, and it is already happening. Rescues and Humane Societies are overwhelmed with the numbers of pits that they get in because people don't know what they're getting, and they think that because it's popular and cheap, they'll try it out. Sadly, with BSLs going against breeds like the pits, they are being euthanized in huge numbers jsut because someone wanted to breed the cool dog du jour....

There are many reasons why a puppy (of any breed) is cheap -most of them bad. Mostly it's because the back-yard-breeders are interested in the money they think they can get - and when they realize just what this litter is really costing them, they unload the pups at whatever they can get hoping just to stay out of the hole.
You don't make money breeding dogs.

Because every body & their brothers are breeding them. Ignorant of any genetic breeding practices. They throw two dogs together & ignore the genetic possibilities of very poor specimen to represent the breed. They are full of all kinds of faults & predispositions for many health issues, structure issues & temperament issues. Most are very poor example of a good solid pure breed. In breeding, line breeding, out crosses that combine & compound serious faults.
A quality Staffie or Pitt will run you several thousand. Where a low quality one will only run a few hundred.
With all the negative aspects of a poorly bred dog you will end up with a mutt. With the genetics so messed up that all you can count on is spending a lot of money at the Vets.
Always keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Cheap is cheap quality.

Supply and demand drives the market and price. Pitt bulls are already over bred and over populated that is why that breed accounts for a large % of dogs either pure Pit or mixed pit in our local shelters.

A quality, well bred, UKC registered pit bull isn't cheap. If you are getting them from a reputable breeder they run about the same as a lab or other AKC registered breed. BYBs sell them cheap but there are no guarantees as to the temperament or health of the pup.
add: I do NOT recommend buying online but I found a few examples.

Some people may try to sell Blue Pits are at higher price, but in actuality their blue color comes from a recessive gene.
