Hey Adam,
You should not fight. A fight is a willing physical clash of two or more egos. Choose not to fight.
So, if you wanted to fight me I would refuse. I would continue to not fight you until you no longer give me a choice.
The short answer is that a martial artist should not be fighting in the street, they should have learned enough self-respect and discipline to not accept a fight.
Of course if you just take a cheap poke at one and they are skilled it is likely that you will get hurt.
Go check out a class.

The sound is all part of the art. It's not necessary though. Some people believe it builds more power, supposedly by helping you "channel your Ki" into the strike. However, there is no scientific evidence of "Ki" or "Chakras" of any kind existing. Some people will try to say that science can't explain everything but, in fact, it can - it just hasn't done it yet. Other people say the yelling is simply to assist you to learn the proper breathing techniques. This is more sensible. Exhaling with the strike will indeed give you a more effective hit however it can be done with out the noise. The most likely reason for the yelling is that it is an excellent psychological weapon to use. A sudden loud yell is often all it takes to surprise a person causing them to lose focus for an instant and making them more susceptible to the strike. There is no need to practice the yelling. Form is much more important. And blocking. So many people, especially those who self teach focus on the hitting and think they're top **** but can't take a hit themselves. Practice blocking twice as much as striking. With enough training you will get to a point where a block will come naturally when somebody strikes at you without you thinking about it.

I hope you have more things to do than picking fights with people whether they know martial arts or not. That's just not cool and not very smart. Why don't you join a local boxing club?
If you and I are on a street and you won't leave me alone, you'd be either flat on your face or be looking up at the sky in a couple of seconds. You won't know what happened. And would I be scare of anything? Nope, NOT A THING. Not even weapons. Well, maybe just worry a bit that I didn't hurt you too badly. ;-)

first off i think spiders answer covered pretty much everything, aside from that in the event you got into a fight with someone who knew martial arts i doubt there is much that would stop them aside from you backing down and ending it.
on another note a fight with a skilled martial artist doesnt last more than a couple seconds, unless they are playing with you, in which case their either not that good.. or just really dislike you and disreguard what they were taught.
it really depends on the person because ive known some people to learn to fight specificaly so they can fight better.
most martial artists though tend to avoid fighting, which is part of the reason behind learning it. knowing it gives you confidence enough that you know for yourself that you dont need to fight because youve proven to yourself that you can. so whats the point.
on the other hand if its someone who learned only to beat people up and likes to start arguments then avoid that person. they will eventualy come across someone with better training and learn their "bigger fish" lesson.

Your face most probably. If you had a face only a mother could love then I'd say you have nothing to lose if you get your ugly mug beaten to a pulp, I on the other hand can't afford to mess up my looks, I may not look like Brad Pitt, but this face has helped me get lucky with women on the average and I sure as hell am not gonna do anything to mess it up by fighting against a guy who looks like an Ogre or a Donkey : P

A true martial artist wouldn’t get into a confrontation that wasn’t absolutely life threatening to him/her or someone weaker them him/herself. The martial arts is (poetically speaking) the journey to self discovery and in that solace there is a peace. Those on the journey to self discovery have no quarrel with people because they have a duty to protect and defend people. Martial arts is controlled violence a better way to think of it is peace training through critical situations. Self disciple would stop a martial artist from fighting you (not to mention law suits, lol).

Depends- on the street, If you had a weapon and I thought you could kill me with it, I would stop. Otherwise, I would have started the fight only as a matter of self defense and therefor would fight to the end.
If it was a match, well, nothing. Its a fight.

Stay completely calm and composed. Move with slow confident gestures.
This is the ultimate method of intimidation. If that doesn't work no method of intimidation will.

the fact I could kill you , as training for natural response means there is a door that is open for an intentional (accident) severe injury. If you train to break an arm all the time, and in fear respond as you train, well..... now train for more severe injury....
