Most people who are truly celibate abstain from all sexual relationships...no kissing, no intimate touching, no oral, no intercourse. Platonic hugs are ok.

People who are practicing abstinence as a form of birth control and sexual purity draw the line in different places. Many religions will teach purity almost to the point of celibacy--they may or may not allow kissing, or may say no french kissing. But really this is a personal choice of drawing the line where a person can stop without sexual urges overwhelming him/her to go further. I think this would be a choice that couples would need to make together and be upfront and firm about if they really want to make the relationship work and they really are serious about not crossing the line.

I think it is a good idea for someone your age to abstain from sex for your own protection from STD'S and unplanned pregnancy regardless of your personal beliefs.

I am including a link to the website for True Love Waits, which is a Christian-based purity movement. They have information on why it's important as well as guidelines for staying abstinent or re-establishing abstinence after being sexually active.

I don't believe there are any guidelines its your personal choice so I would think you make your own guidelines. Just be true to yourself, no need in trying to fool yourself . I'm sure you know what being celibate means...To abstain from sexually activity of any kind with anyone, if you choose to masturbate that's your choice also if you do i think you still will be living a celibate lifestyle...

The first question is why - because that may give you some guidelines on what you can and can't do. Generally celibacy is considered to be no intercourse although the dictionary defines it as remaining unmarried and says nothing about sex.
If you are concerned about catching a STD or aids remember that saliva and sperm can be carriers so mutual casual masturbation is also something to be avoided.

I'd say its personal choice, although it depends on your reasons for being celibate. If its religous reasons then i would say its foolish but probably guidelines do exist. Just live life the best way you think you can and do what makes you happy, that includes how far you want to take sex

It means that you close off the sexual part of your life so that you will have more time and energy to devote to the non-sexual parts of your life.

It is kind of like giving up tv (well, except that most people have a much stronger sex drive than they do tv drive). When you give it up, you start to realize how much time, energy and thought you were spending on it. Then you start to explore other ways to spend that time, energy and thought.

I guess, how you manifest it is your choice, but if you are still chasing guys and kissing and heavy petting, I'd suggest you missed the point.

I guess it depends on your definition. Some people consider oral gratification as non sex. I happen to disagree. If you really want to be celibate, you have to abstain from all contact (sexual).
Why don't you take a nice, relaxing vacation on the beach and think about it.

Then get back to me......

The first definition of celibacy is unmarried, but I believe it has become more defined as abstaining for sexual intercourse. Of course, today, you could be celibate and still exercise other kinds of sexual intimacy.

Being celibate means not having any relationships with the opposite sex at all. You can be friends, but that is it.
