Ya I would get another opinion as well sounds like this person wants to rip you off. usually the ignitions don't go out quiet that easy and the whole thing wouldn't go out maybe like one piece or so. Can you post what exactly happened this morning maybe we can get a better idea of what was going on at the time. Thanks

That's not a fault diagnosis, it's an invitation to show him that you'll pay him whatever he asks. Get it hauled to a VW specialist. Did it throw a CEL? Someone with a VW code reader (VAGCOM) may be able to tell you what's wrong.

Did it fire at all or did it just spin? Did it spin fast?

The likely problems are what they have always been, no spark, no fuel or no compression. No spark is coil packs, cam position sensor and ECU. No fuel is fuel pump, plugged filter or ECU. No compression (fast spinning) could be cam belt, which is expensive because you'd have bent valves too. Let's hope it's not the last. There are certainly things I haven't mentioned that could stop the car from starting.

But he hasn't given you a description of a fault so you must not go with this guy unless he can actually tell you exactly what's wrong.
