First: Are Fleas seasonal? do they go away in the winter?

Second: I live in Fl and my AC/Heater broke so probable not going to have heat this summer (I don't really like using it anyway) But Me and my Girlfriend have four large dogs (55-85lbs) and we don't want them to get to cold, plus we have all tile. is a heating pad/blanket ok to give them at night or just a regular blanket okay. I want them to be comfortable but I don't want to hurt them either.

Thanks so much!!!

There are several types of safe heating blankets/pads out there. The one thing to do is make sure your dogs won't chew on the electric cord because that could be very dangerous.

There are also mats that require no electricity. Some have rubber disks that you heat in the microwave and others have a kind of foil inside that reflects your dog's own bodyheat back onto it.

Try petsmart/petco. I get this pet magazine in the mail that has them but I can't remember the name right now...it is 2 dr's that put it out.

Good luck!

Fleas are more prevalent in the summer, but they're still around in winter. Houses tend to be warmer (even if your heating is broken) so that's where they hide out. It's advisable to treat the year round.

Yes a heat pad/blanket is fine for your dogs so long as they get to choose whether they want to sleep on it or not, don't confine them in a way that they can't get away from the heat source if they're too hot. So just a heat pad in their beds and then another blanket elsewhere is fine, so they can choose how warm they need to be.

Fleas can be seasonal, but in a climate like Florida, there is little likelihood that they would go away in the "winter". I live in Michigan and we are still seeing animals with active flea infestations this far into November b/c we haven't had a strong enough frost yet.

As far as the heating pads, I would recommend just a thick blanket or bed to get the dogs off the floor. If they transition grdually to the weather, they will develop a thick enough coat to keep them comfortable in their enviroment, and as long as they are out of the elements (wind, rain, etc), they should be fine with just the blankets. I'm unsure of how cold it gets in the "winter" (sorry.... no snow equals no winter to me, hehe) in Florida on a normal basis, but as long as it doesn't go below freezing or down into the 40s on a consistent basis, they should be fine.

Fleas are not seasonal they can live in doors year around.

A regular blanket should be fine. As it gets colder the dogs coat will get thicker to compensate. However place a blanket on the floor so they have something comfy to lie on.

fleas can come any time. plus you live in florida it cant get cold that bad there. a blanket would be just fine. it 30 degrees in mass so i know it doesnt get that cold in florida. they will be just fine with a blanket heating pads can get to hot and may burn your dog.
