That is a good question. If you are considering working in a plastics plant, do some research. Ask if they have a health and safety program and if they do what it is. If they use chemicals and manufacture plastics they must have one. Ask how they protect employees from chemicals. If you will not be working with chemicals but will be on the site where chemicals are used, observe the cleanliness of the place, if there are any odors or other causes for concern.

I worked in a J&J plastics factory for Two & a half year. During that time I almost always had a cough.
