Our cat came in this morning acting really scared as if someone was coming to get him. I noticed his fur smelled like gasoline and it was spiked up from the dried out gasoline. Can this cause brain damage and what should we do besides giving him a bath?

Thanks in advance!

It looks like someone did this to him. We have some mean kids in our neighbor hood. He goes outside around 5:00 a.m. and then comes back in at 7:00-8:00.

Unfortunately it sounds like someone may have tried to hurt him. How awful.

Get him bathed ASAP. Gasoline is a solvent and can permanetly damage skin. I had a freak accident at a gas pump and ended up doused in gasoline, so I can tell you from my own personal experience gasoline burns like heck. Bathe the cat with *no soap*, just warm running water for a good 15-20 minutes. Rinse him well. He'll fight but this has to be done. Flush out all the gasoline. When you think you've gotten it all out, rinse him for another 5 minutes.

After you've gotten him clean, take him to the vet. Who knows what else might have happened.

And please, for the love of your cat, keep him inside!!!! Obviously some effed up SOB tried to light your cat on fire with gasoline. It may be he was just under a car but not many cars leak gasoline (oil, yes, but not gas). This sounds deliberate.

Yes, definately sounds like a deliberate act. One of the many things that can happen to indoor/outdoor cats.

My grandma's cat Serafina was tormented by kids. They had tied her tail up with wires then tied cans on them...her tail had to be amputated. So sad.

A bath and a vet trip sounds like a plan....I know from personal experience how difficult to keep a cat indoors after having the luxury of going inside and out. They cry constantly and are at the door and under your feet the second you come home and open the door...it is quite a difficult matter to deal with..so keeping the cat inside is more difficult than some people think...yet, it would definately be safer for the cat, undoubtedly.

Just remember that circumstances beyond your control can happen to pet cats if let outside....and one must deal with the consequences...

I would let other neighbors with cats know what is happening to warn them and to help keep a watchful eye out. If you can catch the people doing something, they could get in serious trouble...animal cruelty is a felony in some states...

good luck to you and hope your kitty feels better soon.

good bath for sure and lots of love and safe enviroment keep in for a couple days , I dont think it will cause serious damage just keep eye out on behavior etc and then if you feel worrid still take to vet. Poor thing, do you think someone did this to him or he rolled around in it? Kids and teens can be cruel to pets so be aware of where you cat travel too

Someone may have pored gas on your cat with the intention of setting him/her on fire (kids can be cruel). It is probably in shock from the experience. He might have ingested some. If that is the case, administer water, fruit juice or soda pop by mouth (1 ounce per 6 pounds of body weight), then get him to the vet ASAP.

Borrow a dog and keep it outside the door! Dang, that sucks. The only way to get rid of it is to remove the male cats, They are competing and marking their territory. Possibly some dog scare crows, things that will scare them away. Maybe setup sounds of dogs growling & barking even. We have a feral cat that comes around, we named him Mr Peabody for the same reason. We dont have a female cat, its the male cats competing for ownership of the place. I see them travel for blocks where any female is and they mark everything they see.

take him to the vet, because my cat had eaten some anti freeze once, shes ok, but it was bad, so take her to the vet, because if she did swallow gas, then it might be bad, but the vet can just get the cat to puke it with alcohol. just take her to the vet to be sure.
