I'm planning on starting with 25 foot lengths of lights (larger bulbs) and cutting/splicing them into custom strands that will fit the eves of my house exactly. I've seen this on other homes, but I want to make sure I am doing it safely/correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sean

Probably a bad idea to do any cutting as this will let rain get into the splices. If they are parallel wired lamps (it still lights when you take lamps out) then you can remove the extra lamps you don't want and fold away the surplus cable. Put a zip-loc bag around each empty socket and you will be more likely to survive until 2008.

Cutting the wires will lend to having "short circuits". I would take the strings of lights and tie off the wires, to get the proper spacing, with tie wraps. Looped wiring will work better than having multiple cuts in the wires.

You can but you have to do the end correctly, i think you need to strip to ends and put them together, but i am not for sure. You can go to a hardware store though and I'm sure they can tell you or wait for more answers here...just make sure they know what their talking about. You can get hurt pretty bad from Christmas lights...trust me.
good luck and merry chrsitmas...:)

Enjoy that screwdriver you're going to be plunging into your ear in 5 weeks when it's still not over.
