It was an excellent metaphor and served it's purpose in illustrating the ridiculousness of teaching creationism in school.

The website of the Church of the flying Spaghetti Monster has now entered my Favourites... I think the primordial soup where we all came from was really just a boiling pot with noodles in it... No wonder I feel the world to be like an overcooked pasta... cause it is! We are all made in the Flying Spaghetti Monster's image. Well, our internal organs are. Maybe us too... now wouldn't that put a dent in plastic surgery ;)

I think it is a great tool for highlighting the irrationality and absurdity of a belief in a God. Along with the Invisible Pink Unicorn and the Celestial Teapot we are able to talk to believers in a language they can understand.
The correlation of diminishing Pirates causing Global Warming is a parody many believers can’t seem to grasp. They just don’t seem to realise they are doing the same sort of thing with their ‘ evidence ‘.
To move forward , we probably need to get Pastafarianism on an equal footing with Islam and Christianity . In the next census , in the Religion section , tick the ‘ other’ box and write in ‘Pastafarian’ .
Check out what happened when Jedi Knight became the 4th largest religion in the uk.

In April 2006, Edward Leigh, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Gainsborough, asked whether he would be allowed to set up a Jedi knights faith school during a Committee debate on the Education and Inspections Bill

Much pizza. I think you need to have an espresso word with your Pasta, it sounds a bit stodgy. I am not familiar with this new linguini either. Where on earth were you tortellini all this nonsense? Are you off your cappuccino?
Seriously though, I think, you are using humour to protest in a non-violent way against bigotry. Please also recognize that not all those with religious beliefs are bigots. Some of us are peaceable, thinking critically and open to reason.

I pray to him every day.
Did you here the one about the Irishman who was late for an interview. he was driving round the car park looking for a space, and there were none available. He says to god - God, if you make a space available for me in this car park I'll become the best christian I can be, I'll go to church every week, read the bible every day, and carry god with me all the time. Moments later a space became available.
The Irishman then says 'dont worry about it lord, I've found one anyway'.
Boom boom

I think the FSM is great! It nicely shows the problems with religion. Especially with state church separation, it show how people who want to allow religion in government only really want their religion in government. When another religions, such as Pastafarianiasm must be allowed, they don't like it.
