Alisdair had entered a contract to purchase a valuable painting. when he arrived at the antique dealer's premises, he was informed by the sales assistant that his employer - the antiques dealer -changed his mind about selling the painting to him because he had received a better offer from a prospective buyer in the United States

A contract is a contract....Legally, I don't think the dealer can change his mind. Why was the painting just not purchased and a receipt or bill of sale given at the time of the exchange? I don't need a contract to buy a pair of shoes. I find the shoes, take them to the cashier, I give her the money for the shoes, she puts them in a bag and I take the shoes to my premises.....? Maybe there is something I don't understand about buying artwork.....maybe not....!

If he had entered a contract in writing and money had changed hands then it is too late for the dealer to change his mind otherwise an offer to buy is only an offer to trade and not legally binding. In GB anyway.

You assume there was a contract. Cash sales are only final when money or product has changed hands. Until then it is only intent to buy and/or sell. Even if it is art and we are talking millions.

I accept as true with CarMan, the broking of route needs to receives a fee. The economic organization received't finance you. have you ever received any contact from the finance organization?... a welcome letter, account # or something? The contract you signed isn't between you and the broking. it really is between you and the finance organization. you'll likely ought to go back the motorcar - it nonetheless belongs to the broking at this factor.
