Christians know what they believe and don't allow anything else (just "religious" stuff, nothing scientific) into their thought process. Atheists know what they believe, and don't let anything else (just scientific stuff, but nothing "religious") into their thought process either. stop calling us close-minded just because we don't believe like you. because using that logic, your also close-minded because you don't belive like us.

Rev. Soleil. i get what you're saying, but, it's faulty. if you were to prove to me 100% that God isn't real, then duh, i wouldn't believe in Him. but you can't do that because I'm close-minded and believe He is real. Now, if I were to prove to you that God was real, then you would believe in Him too, duh. But I can't do that because you are close-minded and believe that He is not real.

Get it?

garway (or garwy) i never said i hated the Muslims, your putting words in my mouth. i said if there was a religion i could get rid of, it would be Islam. doesn't mean i hate them. just like you said Christians. so now you hate us? (wouldn't doubt it). it's just like if I could rid of any pizza topping it would be anchovies, but that doesn't mean i hate fish.

EDIT: I'm guessing that you can't prove with 100% certainty that fairies don't exist, or leprechauns, or that Muhammad didn't ride to heaven on a winged horse, either -- why aren't YOU open-minded about THOSE things?

oh so that means, since you're so open minded, you believe all those things too? I'm not stupid.

Not at all.

Most atheists here (myself included) will freely admit that they would become believers overnight if compelling evidence was presented that verified the God Hypothesis. (However, in my case I would become a maltheist, and actively join the fight to overthrow the tyrannical god of the bible...)

How many Christians do you know who will say that they would abandon their belief if it was conclusively proven that the bible was just a myth? I'll bet you any amount of money you'd care to lose that 99% will say, "Nothing could EVER convince me that God isn't real!"

Which only goes to show that they're using their own imaginations and wish-thinking, rather than objective observations of the real world, to inform their opinions...

EDIT: Precisely my point -- you know better than to believe in those things, because there's no credible evidence to support them.

We had the same epiphany about your god.

Most atheists were once believers. Christianity has no evidence just as Islam has no evidence. We've examined all the evidence for religious claims from an objective view and found them to be without merit. That is the definition of open-minded. Reality isn't based on how you feel, only what is true and can be proven. Can you prove the Christian god exists via objective evidence? Thought so.

Atheists are very open minded. Show me some real evidence for the existence of any of the gods and I will believe. I am open minded.

You have no evidence and believe - I call that closed minded.

If you really think that the majority of Christians do not 'allow scientific stuff' into their thought process you are very badly mistaken.

You have yet to learn the meaning of the word logic. Try not to use that word too often because you show yourself to be woefully inadequate.

It's not just Atheists that think you are close-minded. I'm a Witch and I think most Christians are horribly brainwashed. It's not like they have a choice. The history of Christianity is never taught in church. If it was, it probably wouldn't change anything. The Church has been twisting history for hundreds of years. I enjoyed your last question much more. The one about wiping wout religions. It gave me an oppurtunity to point out what a sick person you are and what a hateful religion you follow.

As a Christian; may I offer this idea. Many 'atheists and agnostics' may be 'turned off' from Christianity because there are some 'things' that have been added to it, making some things 'illogical' (unscientific), and those 'things' have not been 'cleaned out' of Christianity. One example; the scriptural old testament is the law of Moses; the (law of Moses was done away with; Hebrews, (ch 8?)). However, defining old testament as Genesis-Malachi has been allowed to stay and exists presently in USA.

I can agree with your position. I am agnostic and from my perspective both Christians and atheists tend to be quite close-minded with regard to their respective belief systems. Atheists discard faith & spiritual matters as "irrelevant" where as Christians tend to discard any science or evidence which might seem contrary to their own belief system. In doing so both perspectives have an extremely limited view. I believe that the true answer contains aspects of both realms of thought. Open your minds to the possibilities...

Sorry, no. Science is constantly self-regulating with the efforts of experts to weed out any ideas that don't fit. Scientists all agree that this is good and submit their ideas for consideration by all other scientists with the express knowledge that the veracity of their work depends on the rigorous scrutiny of other scientists.

There is no equivalent in religion - no body of experts with the EXPRESS aim of looking for weaknesses to remove so that what remains can be stronger. All their efforts are in keeping the weaknesses in as precariously as possible. That's the POINT of apologetics.

So no, atheists and scientists are nowhere close to being as closed mined as Christians (or any other theist).

I used to think that way also but not anymore.

Atheist base their thought process on the fact that the burden of proof lies on the one making the claim. Most will freely tell you they don't know, but until proof happens, they aren't changing their life.

Yes, I think most of them are too. Atheist are so convinced that once you see things there way that your eyes will be opened and you’ll be so grateful that you are no longer one of the ignorant. Christians think the same thing except you’re opening up your eyes to salvation and you’ll be grateful to be one of the saved. Both feel there way is the right way and they leave no room for individuality or the freedom to choose.
