love of money is the root of all evil. God wants everyone to prosper and being prosperous is not bad. God gives us the best as long as we ask. But don't ever turn away from God because God is the one who makes people rich. You'll go to hell when you serve money and not God. Also, God commanded us to give 10% back as tithes. Tithing is an act of faith. God gives 100%. He wants to take 10% to see how faithful you are the he'll open the floodgates of blessings upon you.

Jesus did not say wealth is a one-way ticket to hell.
He said:

A) it is very hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven - hard, not impossible - that means it is hard for someone not to trust in their money & ignore God when they already have everything that they need.

B) that the LOVE of money was the root of all kinds of evil. Money itself is not evil, it is when people love it and seek it out above other things - that's when greed and theft and oppression come in... you know the saying guns don't kill people, people kill people? It's kind of like that - money isn't corrupt, but people become corrupt if they love money too much.

In the case of Abraham and Job, God blessed them with wisdom and wealth because they honored him with their lives and they were responsible with the money and possessions that he gave them. The same thing happens today - if you are responsible & honor God with your money, your money grows, but if you blow all your money on your own pleasures and you don't give to God or to the poor, you're going to have problems. But God does not promise riches in this world, as a Christian, my riches are waiting for me in the afterlife.... for Jesus also said:

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy, and thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourself treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

I get all the rice I need from the grocery store, and have no need to bother a supernatural being for my dietary starch.
