I think so.
The bible is God's word, but it's not the first word God spoke and it isn't the last. God speaks in our hearts to us every day.
I think some fundamentalists find it easier to worship the bible instead of the Living God to whom it points. Or course it's easier to say "This is the only word of God I will attend to, and it is inerrant," instead of going through the complicated and energy-requiring process of introspection and constant analysis of our spiritual lives.

You would have to be really clever to do that. You would have to be the font of all knowledge leaving nothing to God. So no I don't think so. THAT WOULD BE CRAZY MAD BABE
Oi I just read some of the other answers. You are angry at me as a christian n I lufs ya and Christians are upset with me cos I am a fundie and I lufs ya. And legalists are upset with me mostly cos i am a tad silly, and I lufs ya. Well I do when I don't have a mood swings. God loves you and thats the main thing (God knows about my mood swings) It's ok you can tell me off for my imperfections if you like n all. Just don't mention the bald patch.

Many do...God is infinite, but many people try to compress "all of God" into the bible by saying that all of God can be explained or described by the bible. This is not a new problem though. The prophets stood on mountaintops and told people to look to God for their answers and people instead looked at the prophets. People wrote scriptures telling people to look to God for their answers, and instead the people looked to their scriptures. What happens is many people can't tell the difference from "This book is about what's in God" and "God is about what's in this book".

Probably, a lot do. If your focus is on anything but God, even if it is on the bible more than God, then that is idolatry. What makes worshiping idols attractive to people is that it's always easier and less complicated than worshiping the true God.

Sadly, I think so. Whether its by intent, rationalization, or ignorace..
The power of the Bible is its ability to move us to action. Its in the resulting action that we can find God. Not by reading the Bible alone. Only then does it become the Word of God....

The Bible is the Word of God, if you put God first then you would follow his Word.

God's Word is His truth, His Spirit.
Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Umm, that is quite a question.
As I and most other serious Theological Scholars of Scripture understand John 1:1, Christ (God) is the Word (Bible) and so it would be impossible to put God before God.
That would be like saying you can put your wife before your spouse. They are just two different words for the same thing.

To me it appears that some of the really do that, but not all of them. So, yes, some of them do. This can easily be seen when they use the Bible to justify violence, unforgiveness, and war. That is so not of God.
