Is the stampede from F1 to NASCAR going to destroy this sport? Spend years following and watching the Busch drivers develop their talent for stint in the Big League...then their time is spent waiting again for the big break...F1 drivers remind me of illegal aliens trying to jump in front of the people trying to go through the correct process...money prevails...I am sure losing interest in NASCAR...a fan for 32 yrs...

It's not going to ruin the sport. The drivers who can't cut it in NASCAR will only be around for a year or two. The drivers that can cut it will only make the competition better. They'll also bring new fans, and help to diversify the fan base.

I do think that anybody who steps into a Cup car should have a minimum of 10 Busch races under their belt. That should actually be a mandatory rule.

Times a changing...Montoya and Jacques Villeneuve are not illegal aliens, they raced in the US for many years before moving to NASCAR. Those two guys are former champions of Champ Car and Villeneuve won the F1 world championship in 1997 and both won the Indy 500. So if the owners think that they are better then the Busch drivers, then so be it. There is no correct process in racing. If you have talent, and you have money, come on down, your the next driver in the Nextel Cup!

NASCAR wants to get more recongization in the world, adding Montoya and Villeneuve might help them out, but they are in the twilight of their careers so they decide NASCAR is the place to keep their competitive juices flowing.

It's not former F1 drivers I be concerned with, it's Toyota and their huge racing budget I be concerned with. Your right about money prevails, money talks and makes people happy. Just ask Joe Gibbs Racing.

I don't think it will wreck NASCAR. If you can drive come on. Those that try and fail (Hornish from the IRL probably) will be out in a few years.

The Busch guys never even get the shot because the Cup guys come down and take all the money and points. Nobody pays attention to the top Busch guy who probably rarely even gets top 10's. If NASCAR could fix Busch then I think you would see a lot more of them moving up that way.

I agree with the guy up there that said anyone that wants to race in Cup should have some Busch experience 1st.

To be honest I am kind of torn on this issue, some of the open wheel guys have been doing a little bit of Busch and trying to somewhat "earn" their way in. Which I suppose is cool. But, as you said there a few guys trying to make the direct jump.
I guess IF they are good enough, why not? It should feature the best drivers available regardless of working their way up. In some sports some guys make the jump from college or junior directly to "the pros". Granted not many, but a few do. Maybe that is the same with NASCAR, some will make the jump some will not.

I know what you mean. I dont have a problem with F1 drivers coming to NASCAR but they should have to spend a year in Busch or Truck before coming to the "Show".

I know people are going to say that the owners are free to hire the best drivers they can and they can hire who they want. Your absolutely correct, they can and are able. Doesnt mean it is the right thing to do.

For years everyone said Jeff Gordon didnt "Pay his dues". But he DID race busch series first.

Do you like how I worked Jeff Gordon into the topic? I could be an announcer! I promise I am not nearly as annoying as Rusty!

no f1 is the crem de la crem of drivers most nascar drivers wouldnt be able to make the first turn in an f 1 race so the rejects as you call them are still more talented than the bush drivers

I disagree. The cream will ultimately rise to the top, and the turds will sink.
To be honest, I'm not real impressed with most Buch drivers anyway. Most Busch races are just one big wreckfest.
I'm beginning to think that most people who whine about foreigners have no concept of capitalism. The idea being if you're good, you will excel. If you suck, you won't be around long. No need to institutionalize some kind of reverse affirmative action.

Yes, I think they should spend some more time in Busch before they come over..I guess Nascar figures since you have won Monaco and a former F1, Indy500 winner, Cart & IRL championship that serves as a prerequist for Nascar..Scott Speed is spending next yr in ARCA, and run some busch and truck events, so atleast he is trying to come up the right way....I'm sure Nascar is looking at the $$ factor and hopes it will bring over some more fans to Nascar....But these guys need to pay their dues and come up the correct way...With so many of them out there next yr, its going to be interesting seeing how many really really make it, with the Cup guys who know there stuff.. I'm over here at Phoenix for the weekend races, let me tell you, this is one hot topic over here...

Go Dale Jr win Phoenix

It's ruining the sport. I think it's insulting when someone like Villenueve can make a rookie start with almost no NASCAR experience and do better than the people that have spent their lives driving stock cars. Sure the F1 rejects are more skilled than our boys but we don't need to be reminded of that every weekend. If we don't stop them they will take over our sport!!!
