Hi, my daughter is 17 years old and has woken up with huge blisters 5 times now. The first when she was about 5yrs old and the rest over the last 2-3yrs. They have occurred on her upper arm, both knees, top of thigh and finger. There is redness round the blister and the liquid in it is clear. It looks like a burn. When it pops, it scabs over, takes weeks to heal and scars as it seems to consist of many layers of skin. The wound is quite deep so takes a lot of healing. Nobody seems to know what it is, not the GP nor Consultant Dermatologist and we are very worried in case she wakes up with it on her face as the scarring's pretty bad. I have photographs if anyone has any ideas or would like to see them. There is no pattern to the blisters as to when they come and the Consultant does not think it's allergy or eczema related and not typical of any other condition he's aware of and just said whatever it is, it's rare. We live in Northern England. Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Thanks for your swift responses! It definitely is not self harm, she's a happy, well adjusted kid and no family traumas have happened. Also, it first happened when she was very young. I've looked up bullous pemphigoid and I've wondered about that before but she only gets one or two blisters and the site didn't mention scarring - it said those blisters are a thin layer of skin whereas my daughter's are thick blisters. She saw the specialist yesterday and he has no idea what it is. He's setting something up so that the next time she wakes up with one, we can go straight up to the hospital to get it seen in blister form (as her latest one is a scab now) where they will take biopsies and cultures etc but that could be months away. He said it's not impetigo as it doesn't spread, isn't contageous and doesn't scar. Thanks again for your comments and ideas - all much appreciated!
