my newfie lately is sleeping way too much, like 15 hours every 20 hours. he looks very drowsy when he's awake and is slow to respond to commands and often looks confused and lost.

he lies down on the floor making strange faces. i don't understand this behavior. he seems to have lost interest in eating too.

he is 2 years old, so he's not old and i presume he is in very good health because his weight and size seems good.

is this normal behavior or something is wrong?

I would not presume he is in good health. If it was my dog, he would be at the vet having blood work ASAP to find out if everything is OK.
Do you take him for walks and out for organized play a few times daily? Does he act normally at those times? If he acts normal when you encourage activity, he may just be too bored and needs more structure to his day. If structured play does not make him perk up, he needs to see a vet.
I have a 5 year old male and he is a pretty calm dog, but he goes for several walks into the wood daily and plays a lot. If he is not being encouraged to be active, he does sleep most of the time.
Thyroid problems can be a problem in the breed and warrent looking into.

He is still very young, and should be still interested in playing or doing breed specific activities! I would definitely call the vet. to schedule an appointment! How long has this been going on?? I do know that when my dogs are sick, they seem to sleep a lot, but not as much as your dog is sleeping! Good Luck, I hope it is nothing more than him being tired and growing!!

It is somewhat normal behavior, He is really just being lazy. Newfies being a working breed typically need exercise to keep from getting bored or lazy. This is also the same reason he is probably not eating either, he is simply not hungry, because he has not done anything to make him want to eat. Does this help?

You need to see the vet. Any time an animal loses interest in food and is not eating or drinking there is a serious problem. This is normal behavior in any dog. If he hasn't eaten in quit a while you can request nutri-cal to give him strength and an appetite while he gets better. Please take him to the vet.

If you feel something isn't right, you might want to see your vet for a proper diagnosis.
