I was wondering, I only have a very small turkey to cook as for there is only two of us that will be having thanksgiving dinner together. I want the turkey to taste good, so we both will eat it.. however i dont want to add any unneccessary calories to the turkey meat itself.. if i roast the turkey with stuffing inside and butter on the outsides, will the meat i eat contain more calories from the extra dressings surrounding it ? I didnt know if it would absorb it or not. just curious ,not overly obsessive :) as i like to prepare things differently to see how they turn out.

Why do you want to butter the outside?? Baste it with the natural juices as it cooks. So long as you don't eat the skin you won't eat extra calories unless you deep fry the turkey. You mentioned wanting to try something different well how about grilling your turkey?? I love to grill a turkey with lot so grilled veggies on the side. You can also marinate the turkey in white wine before you grill it. I have never done that but a family friend does and my mom says that really adds to the flavor when you grill the turkey.

I dont butter a turkey. I just use a baster. I use the baster every 30 minutes and it keeps the turkey moist with its own natural juices. I do it my mom's way and just use a dash of salt and pepper on each area of the turkey before roasing to bring out flavor.

Just don't fry it.

The best way to cook any roast is to put it on a grill in your tray and only add water to the bottom. NO oil or butter.
If you can I would also hold the stuffing.

to make things simpler you can measure the amount of butter that you use and add that to the caloric intake. also cooking with the stuffing inside lengthens the cooking time and will make it impossible to determine the amount of additional calories from the stuffing.
