Why did John Lennon write the words in times of trouble mother Mary comes to me but also wrote Imagine, imagine theres no religion , no heaven above us no hell below ?
Is this a conflict of beliefs ?

Paul wrote Let It Be.

And his mother's name is Mary.

But if it means the mother of God to you, then that makes the song special for you in that way.

John Lennon had a lot of beliefs about religion, and drifted from one belief to another. At one point, he had a, as Christianity Today puts it, "born-again" phase. The following is a link to an interesting article about that.
