Wasn't there like a period of 400 years prior to the events of Jesus that Yahweh did not speak?

Maybe they stopped eating bread made from ergot contaminated grain. That would explain it.

During the First Temple era, the gravest threat to the continuation of Judaism was idolatry. We see throughout the Bible how different Jewish kings brought idols into the Temple and banned Jewish observance.
When the Second Temple was being rebuilt, the Jewish prophets of the day asked God to remove the attraction of idolatry from the Jewish soul. God agreed, however, there was a cost. The cost was that without the lure of idolatry, the power of prophecy would be lost. Thus, Israel lost its direct communication link with God.

We took a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We sent Messengers to them. But every time there came to them a Messenger with what their hearts desired not, they treated some as liars, and some they sought to kill.

Time is of no concern in the Spirit realm. What seems like a 'long' time to humans is nothing to God. His perfect plan for mankind is working every second and never stops.
