I have found it very interesting that the early church went so far out of its way to silence a lot of things, not just those writings early Christians used, but I believe that was more for power over the people. It stood to gain Rome when Rome's Emporers had run the empire into the ground.
The theory I have can be applied to any mix of cultures. They may still retain their Gods, but they take ideas of other cultures "philosophies" and apply it to their own religion. Such as a godman that is sacrificed in order to save his people. This isn't a unique story to Christianity. Nor is the symbolism of "washing in blood" in order to be "clean". There are many things which show the mixture of the cultures in the Bible and the only way other people are going to see that is if they take an honest look at the culture in which the writings come from.
It's not Satans trickery. This is a natural occurence. All one as to do is look at America and the huge melting pot it is to understand how cultures mix. =)

Many believe that the Church cannot change because it is God, however God wants us to change from being so materialistic, so too must our church. After fifty years I had a revelation that Pauls teaching was flawed and is either the one against Christ or fed the falling away from following the Christ. That many mothers imagine their boy children as the returned christ is just wrong for it teaches the opposite of humility. Thus the truths we find are Gods way of opening our eyes and removing the vail of Satan. Those who refuse the enlightenment persecute those who do, its symbolic of the illness Paul introduced. That he told his own tales with no witnesses has to allow deception.

I think it is necessary for us to at least look into these other works that were written and see how they would affect your faith (if at all). In some of the cases it seems that the only reason for exclusion was disenfranchisement of certain groups of Christians (this comment will make others angry but its obvious that God and faith have been used as political tools throughout history and are still used as political tools today).
I find it interesting that people refuse to see the overtly political motives in some of the actions of the church in the past (and as well today). If your faith is to be legitimate you should question and learn.

New truths? Like what? Like the Gospel of Thomas and the supposed grave of Jesus and His wife? I think those things are a load of manure.
As for the "early church" trying to silence those who weren't orthodox etc., that is the early Catholic church, NOT the early true church. They are 2 separate churches. Study it out. I think it's great that you are asking so many questions - that is the mark of a great learner. Just remember to take everything back to the Bible to see how it lines up.

I would read something like "Breaking the Spell" by Daniel C. Dennett. Douglas Adams and Mark Twain have some wonderfully cynical quotes about religion, too.
The way I view it, religion is like a game of Russian Roulette; if the gun has 1000 chambers and only one is empty. The odds of you actually belonging to the "true" faith is pretty small. When your chance of winning is that small you got to wonder if it is maybe a scam.

If you believe many fundamentalist christians, they will tell you the internet was created by satan. They say this, because they now dont have complete mind control over the masses..which scares them to death. The sharing of ideas over an unedited medium only shakes up authority...try listening to any of the christian evangelists, conservative talk show hosts, etc...they all fear the internet. To many people on the internet sharing ideas based on logic and reason instead of emotion and fear....

Seeking truth wherever it lies and justice is the driving spirit of this age. Many feel the impetus of it. Truth is the goal of both science and religion, after all, however hobbled we go about it.

That would depend entirely on your view of what "The Church" is. If she is indeed the Body of Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit when Jesus Christ breathed on His Apostles and then again on the first Pentecost...when she meets in Ecumenical Council (of which there were Seven in the time of the Undivided Church - see Acts Chapter 15 for a prime example of this truth)...ruled by Bishops as called for in Holy Scripture...then that Church...that Body of Christ of whom Jesus is the Head and all Baptized persons are the members...has the right - nay, the DUTY to determine what is "orthodox" (right belief) and what is not.
