Christians do believe that Jesus is coming back for His Church. If He came on a cloud and did nothing, then I would know it was not the real Jesus. God has told us exactly what He is going to do. The Israelites missed Him the first time He came because they did not acknowledge the prophecies He fulfilled.
God is not asking us to believe in Jesus by faith alone. He has given us prophecies regarding Jesus to be fulfilled literally. Remember the wise men who came to Herod asking for the ruler so they could worship Him? Herod scratched his head and asked his Bible scholars to look it up. They found the prophecy and gave the answer, "In Bethlehem." How clear! No poetic language there, like in Nostradomas' writings. If Jesus was born in another city, then He would not be the man God sent to save us.
If Jesus came in a cloud and did nothing else, He would be an imposter. Read Revelation 19 to see what is supposed to happen when Jesus comes in the clouds. When He comes in the clouds, every eye will see Him and they will mourn. It will not be a secret coming, but one filled with shock and awe.

I'd ask what planet he came from. Clouds are up, beyond that is the outer atmosphere, beyond that is the moon, other planets, other solar systems, other galaxies, etc. Nobody points up at the stars to find heaven since Galileo cracked the central cosmological model. Then again, I don't think that Jesus would come down in a cloud. After all, he said, "The Kingdom of Heaven is inside you."

NO
because how would I know he's Jesus?
He could be Mohamed or Joseph or Moses or Abraham or even David Copperfield doing one of his magic tricks.
Because he probably will not have long blond hair and blue eyes as depicted in all his paintings.
What if he's a Black man with kinky hair and a kinky beard and said I'm Jesus
NO I wouldn't believe him for 1 second.
And what can I ask him to do to proove that he's Jesus?
Make rain? Move a car? Create something out of nothing?
Then he'd just be a magician.

No. All the self righteous, ego tripping, gay and abortion hating so called Christians would suddenly realise how un-Christian and sinful they have been. There would be such a crowd of them in the front of the queue with so many sins that all non believers and believers in other religions would be way at the back and safe for years. By the time they got to the front hell would be full and with all the sanctimonious Christians gone that would heaven!!!

Probably everyone in this forum acknowledged that GW Bush exist and is the current US President. But the odds are every good that not everyone here automatically agrees with all his policies or is willing to support or aid everything he wants to do. It is because even though they know he is President, they don't trust (have faith or believe) in him.
The situation is the same with God. If he appeared on a cloud tomorrow, many people would still not trust or follow him. That is because trust does not come from the head. It comes from the heart.
He could change the head, but appearing, but not the heart. So since it is the heart he wants (the trust and obedience), he has people come by "faith" in him, rather then by knowledge.
If they saw him, they still would not "believe" in the Bible sense of trusting in and being obedient to him.

Dreaming and hallucinating would be much more likely scenarios. As would some sort of newly-invented cloud-shaped hovering device.
And even if I could somehow be certain that it was really happening and the person was standing on an actual cloud, that still wouldn't be evidence that the person in front of me was a character from Christian mythology.

Then I guess there really would be a jesus and then I might have second thoughts about my atheism. Until then, it's all fantasy and myth, just like santa claus and the tooth fairy.
Either that or I would have to start taking some different meds.

I believe in him...standing on a cloud in front of me or not. It's like the wind. You can't see it but you can feel it and you know it's there.
You don't need to see anything as long as you believe. It's a little thing called Faith.

I find this a very interesting question!! Equally that there are still those that say no they would not believe. Fascinating. Regardless, the Bible says that one day ALL knees will bow and ALL will proclaim Jesus as Lord. So, one day we will know who was right.
