So--someone leaving a pamphlet on your mailbox, or sponsoring a 30 second advertisement on tv, is force enough to make you angry?

Nobody can force me, I'm an American. I believe in freedom. I will take pamplets from all religions and debate all religions all the time, in public, in private, on tv, at the theater, in the stadium, at the mall, in the school, etc. Get the point.

We as a people need to stop being so 'offended'. America is turning into the land of wimps. Get thicker skin.

i think it can be a subtle, gradual process.

when i think back on my days in elementary school, there were always the people who assumed you believed the way they did, so they would interject something they consider "fact" into any conversation. i think that approach will work on most kids, especially in those days when someone of authority was supposed to be trusted.

i still hear it happening, it just doesn't confuse me anymore, as now i know it's perfectly normal for me NOT to believe.

as for distribution of pamphlets or other advertising, it does kinda make me angry, but only because i think that money could have gone to better use.

Someone disagreeing with you is one thing, everybody disagrees now and again, and besides it's healthy to hear other opinions or read other people's scriptures. By there is a clear definition of "forcing":

"You'll spent eternity in (hell, hades, the craft section of K-mart) if you don't change to my religion and accept (Jesus, Mohammed, Bill O'Reilly) as your Lord and Savior".

I can't think of anything more offensive then that. It condemns the person you're talking, assumes that you know more than they do, and calls them a dumb-*** all in the same sentence---and the most offensive part of it is that the people that say it actually believe that they are doing you a favor or "saving" you by insulting you.

I think it is when someone tries to debate with you on a topic that they KNOW they know more about then you. When they have answers to question that you don't, and lead the conversation to only those questions, so that they can remain in control, that is forcing a way of thinking. Just because someone is more informed then you doesn't make them right.

Basically continuing to talk/argue/write until you change your stance.

I don't worry about this too much because there are things, like the font on a screen, that I'm willing to change on, but then there are others that I'm not, like if a god effects this world there should be evidence. I'm much more worried about people using civil laws to make others follow their morality and trying to get "pseudo science" taught as an alternative to science.

I don't think anyone can force anyone else into their way of thinking. They can tell you their beliefs, and even state that they think you are wrong. I personally don't agree with this, but if someone does that to me, I don't view it as them forcing me to do anything. If you don't like it, I think you can politely say, "I'd rather not talk about this.". If they don't shut up--turn away from them. Better for you that you don't let them get you riled up, because it just makes you feel bad.

Well normally I'd say I have the presence of mind that no one can force their ideas on me. But I suppose if they were to drug me or torture me for an extended period or use some other form of psychological manipulation, that could constitute forcing me into their way of thinking.
Also when people indoctrinate children, that certainly qualifies.

No one I have seen has ever forced there beliefs on anyone in here, that I have seen. I allow everyone has the right to go to hell if they want to. Jesus said ye must be born again, now the ball is in the lost sinners court. Its up to them what they will do. We are to teach, and for men to preach God's word, to those who are lost. If anyone feels pressure talk to God about it.

They can attempt to in conversation by not being willing to listen to my views and are constantly shaking their head impolitely waiting for their turn to speak

if you are strong then you will be able to argue your point.

If you are weak, then they WILL force you to think like them.

But arguing for the sake of winning an arguement is not good. Argue with a point to be made.
