Banning nativity scenes from downtown these days seems to be a growing menace to our freedoms in this nation. I would like to ask you, my friends at YA - would there be any fuss and banning if folks put out menorahs ?? Would there be any fuss and banning of other folk's religious symbols? What is this huge animosity to Christ's birth being displayed in its symbolism? Folks who love the Christmas season think it is okay to put santa claus and reindeer and colored lights all over the city !!! If THEY can do this, why can't Christians have THEIR symbolism??? Does this sound like a double standard to you ?? ??? ????

I don't see a double standard, I see PERSECUTION of CHRISTIANITY going on big time.

If they COULD they would ELIMINATE Christmas all together!

Good grief, NEXT you watch, RED and GREEN will be gone.
Red for the BLOOD, and GREEN for the LIFE He brought at His birth!

Wouldn't it be something if STORE SALES DROPPED considerably BECAUSE they leave out what CHRISTmas is really all about... the BIRTHDAY remembrance of Christs birth.....

Wonder what would happen then!!!!

We have a city park in our town , it's huge. Anyone can put up their religious symbols. It's usually businesses and churches but there are sculptures, paintings and Christmas decorations depicting all religions, even Masons. From the moment it opens there is a long line of traffic every night to see what's been added. There has been no discrimination at all.
That's the way I think it should be. We all come together and worship by decorating in our own way.
For those that don't believe in any religion, just don't look.

I agree with you that slowly Christian's rights have been dissolving almost to the point of having to keep it hidden from the world without being persecuted because of it.

Of course this has been revealed to us in the bible along with the Jewish religion. And Jews are God's chosen people. So why not abolish their rights to have menorahs? Well I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing.

Can't we let each other alone for a few weeks to celebrate as we want? Or not celebrate. Who is it hurting?

For those of you who these symbolism's offend, grow up, shut up and stop whining. Will someone throw rocks in YOUR window for being a non believer?

True But you dont see Menorahs. Our country is dominated by christians. But Some Christian religions believe this is not actually Jesus` birthday. A tree is a symbol as well as lights, and decorations and santa. I have to say that there is plenty of other ways to show christmas spirit besides nativity scenes. There is no reason to offend anyone over it. You can still put it in your yard.. Besides christmas is so commericalized most children or people couldnt tell you the meaning or origin of Christmas.

Yes it is... why not ban the new Atheist movie that is based on a book about killing God? (The Golden Compass) Oh well, If I feel like putting a nativity scene in my front yard I will. If I want to pray out loud in a public place, I will. No one has to look, no one has to listen.

Churches and synagogues are fine places for nativity sets and menorahs repsectively. Whether atheist, agnostic, Christian or Jewish, Islamic, or anything else--as an American Citizen one should protest vehemently against the Nativity or Menorah or something Islamic being displayed on publicly owned grounds. This country was founded on the state keeping it's nose out of religion. To display anyone of these (i guess unless a montage of all religions was displayed) is the state favoring say Christianity over everything else. All who are American citizens--while if Christian a nativity wouldn't bother me--but if I were jewish or islamic--or anything--I'd think the state was displaying at worst a preference towards Christianity--at least a lack of sensitivity towards my faith. So--our forefathers were wise enough to seperate the state and relgion except in very sweeping terms (endowed by our Creator for example--does not indicate a Christain, Islamic, or Jewish deity). Keep the Nativity, Menorah--and all religious Icons off of public property unless you display EVERYTHING FOR EVERY RELIGION.

If Christians would quit shopping for Christmas in America, boycotting the removal of the manger scenes of our Lord, you'd stop this foolishness.

It is the Christians who permit this and what you permit increases!

Freedom has never been cheap. Much blood has been shed for freedom. Christians and Jews have been hated for a long time. I feel the hate on this forum. One person wanting to sue because the St. George cross is in the British flag on British Airways.

Christians are being forced to stand up for Jesus. God will not have it any other way! We either choose Jesus or we reject Jesus. There is no other way.

Ever since America has been known to be a Christian nation, it has been the effort of other nations to change America. They immigrate here to change us. What they fail to realize is that America is great because her God is great. America's God is in that Declaration of Independence and America's God is in that Constitution. When you start eliminating America's God with your god or your thoughts, then you start eliminating America which is the same as destroying America.

I missed the first question but I think it is totally ridiculous that the Nativity seen is not allowed in some cities. What happened to our rights. Does it really bother somebody that much that they have to waste other peoples time and money to make sure it's not present? Seems like there are more important issues than this. Pretty Petty if you ask me. GOD BLESS!!

Depends on where the display is.

On private property than anything within reason should be allowed, including a nativity scene.

However, on gov't property they have to include anyone who asks to be included. So if they have a nativity scene, or a menorah and another religion asks for inclusion they have to provide it, at tax payer expense and quickly. Its easier and safer just to support no religion instead of being forced to support all.

At the mere suggestion of Christ, Satan sends forth his own with their screeching howls of protest. Some have responded to your question today with their humanistic damnable justifications because they know they are already defeated - their clock is ticking and they know their fate. Of course it's a double standard, but such is the work of Satan and all who serve him.

It DOES sound like a double standard. I love the Nativity sets. As a Christian, they mean even more to me. I have envisioned how beautiful Jesus must have been as a baby. I mean, can you imagine holding Him in your arms, smelling that beautiful baby smell, His hair would have been like angel feathers, and to top it all off, knowing that His was the one to bring hope to a lost world. I think the lost world is truly afraid of accepting the truth, and this is why the turn their backs on it all. God bless.
