Have any of you ever read Leviticus 11? I'm sure many have, I was just reading it yesterday.
I don't think there is any time in that entire chapter that it was the least bit unclear, that we are only supposed to eat certain animals.

I am a christian, but I follow the food laws.

I know I know I know I know...

The verse that says "don't make unclean what I have made clean..."
Your preachers and pastors preach on that one for days don't they...
Do they ever read the rest of the chapter?
That particular saying is in a dream, yes it is about animals, but the story is about preaching to the gentiles, which were formerly thought of as unclean. So, if he was using say a metaphore of sorts, and what they had previously been talking about was the gentiles, and the next thing they do is go preach to the gentiles, I don't think that verse had anything to do with food. All God's laws are still in place!

Tell me what you think... :)

I'm not saying it was a metaphore, only that is wasn't talking about food, READ IT and you will see. They were talking about people, anyone with eyes can see it if they look with an open mind.

Also - GOD SAVED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW NOT THE LAW ITS SELF!
The curse of the law - death
The law - the law
He saved us from the CURSE which would be dying from breaking the law, but not the law itself, which we are to still keep if we love GOD

Thank you - ACTS TEN - It's about preaching - NOT FOOD - does he ever eat a pig in the story? NO but he does go preach -!!!!!!

Also, once the gentiles accepted God they followed his laws, except the law of being circumcised, which Paul states does not matter as long as they are saved, circumcision was like giving a sacrifice to keep yourself holy

By the way, its been proven in studies that the exact foods God told us NOT TO EAT are terrible on our bodies, as many people are saying here, why would God tell us to now eat things that are bad for us? Think he was trying to protect us with the laws to begin with?

SAM - thank you for calling me a spiritual WHORE-
I would like to point out that I AM A CHRISTIAN - not a jew - and that unlike a jew I BELIEVE that JESUS came to save me that HE IS GOD - and that because of his death I am free from the CURSE of sin - in other words death.

Living by the law, which was set in place to protect me, is the way that I GIVE MY LIFE to MY GOD. I would rather follow his law, than live like a whore, and I would rather follow his law, even though I don't have the curse of death because I love him. I understand what your saying, and I'm sure your pastor put that message out real strong, but the reason alot of atheists don't accept God is because they don't want to SUBMIT to him, to me, you sound like you don't want to submit to him, I am just pointing out that he said to do something and we should do it.
THE CURSE OF THE LAW IS DEATH and that is what was NAILED TO THE CROSS!

it never states in those verses that we are to eat unclean foods, just that we are to watch out for people who tell us to break GODS law, which is what eating unclean food is.

2007-11-09 01:39:39 · update #5

No, that means following the LAWS not the punishments, because we have been saved from the punishments.
It makes me feel good to do what my lord and savior my GOD JESUS told me to do.
Question, if the old laws are toast, then, should we rape children? Because that was an old law. Should we have sex with our sisters, or with animals? (I'm talking men, I'm a lady)
Those are old testement laws......
I try not to steal, I try not to bear false witness, I try to abide by all the laws, every one of them. I'm not perfect but I try, and thats good enough for God because he died for my sins, so each time I fall short, he is there to cover it, but we aren't trying if we don't attempt to follow his laws. We aren't living for him if we don't try to live FOR HIM, the way HE LAID OUT FOR US TO LIVE. He gave us very explicit laws for how to live, that still make sense today.

Jessky Loves... I agree with you (in this) 100%! God never changes. Thus, neither do His Laws. Even the Law of the Sacrifice was not abolished or done away with at the cross. If God could do away with His Laws, then Jesus would have never had to die. Instead, Jesus' Sacrifice was the fulfillment of the Law of the Sacrifice. Thus, Jesus' Sacrifice stands forever in the place of the continual sacrifices which had been going on since the original Fall of Mankind to sin.

The same applies to the Law of what is Clean and Unclean... These Laws cannot be abolished or done away with -- as previously explained. They can't even be fulfilled because there is no fulfillment promised in this case -- other than the total destruction of Sin and the Earth made New. But, at that time, we will be going back to the Eden Diet of Fruits, Grains, and Nuts -- even vegetables will no longer be part of our diet (except for the Leaves of the Tree of Life).

As for Peter's vision... Peter explains to us the meaning of the vision:

Acts 10:28 "And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean."

Acts 10:34 "Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:"

Jesus nailed the law to the cross with him. He fulfilled the law when God raised him out of hell and Jesus sprinkled his blood on the alter as the last sacrifice. The Bible also talks about not letting others tell you what to eat. If you only have enough faith to live by the law, you will be judged by the WHOLE law, not just the part you choose to follow. If you break one part of the law, you are guilty of all. Are you sure that's how you want to live? Or would you rather let Jesus be the answer. Did you know that in Revelation, the letters to the 7 churches talks about them being with a whore, well, you are a spiritual whore if you think you are saved by Jesus but live by the law. You can't be saved by grace and live according to the law, one or the other. Choose which you prefer.

The dietary laws have no direct bearing on any persons spiritual life. It may have an influence however on one's physical health. In other words, it is not a mortal sin to eat pork or even to eat with unwashed hands. In some cases, disobeying these laws might be necessary for survival such as if you have nothing else to eat or could not wash your hands. There are instances when believers had such choices to make. You will be judged by what's in your heart, not by what's in you tummy.

I think you have an excellent point. Don't forget what God said to Peter at Cornelius' house which related to preaching to the Gentiles (Acts 10).

I do think that the laws on eating certain foods were given for a purpose and for a time.

You might want to have a look at these scriptures. Please take note of where this spirit comes from in verses 1 and 2.

1Ti 4:1 ¶ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

surely, we are allowed to consume them, yet think of roughly this: a farmer did an test along with his pigs. He positioned all of threpigs in cages and stacked them on precise of eachother. He only fed the precise pig. He suggested that each and every of the pigs nevertheless ate. it incredibly is by way of fact the pig below could consume the different pigs exriments. GROSS!! and in case you boil a roast long adequate maggots come out of it, no remember how sparkling you think of it became. Maggots burry themselves into the pigs skin and meat. do no longer consume pink meat. The jewish nevertheless have faith that it incredibly is unclean to consume and boy have been they proper! i'm Baptist and don'thave the no pink meat rule, yet after understanding that i won't be able to consume it anymore!

I try to follow the food laws myself. Not because the bible said so, but because of health reasons. If you want to follow rules set out for the Israelites then feel free but isn't it unwise to judge others? Isn't that 'law' still in place too? Blessings and Light.

The Old Testament is a guide for the Old ways, as well as the prophecy of Jesus' coming to save us. The dietary laws and admonitions of the Old Testament were rendered moot when Jesus boiled down the 400+ 'laws' to two commandments:
You shall love the Lord thy G-d with all your heart, and
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

The rest is merely for reference. if it makes you feel good to follow the old ways, be happy. But...that means following the customs regarding stealing, adultery, etc. No one wants to return to that do they? (except Muslims?)

I think it is perfectly fine that you want to observe the Mosaic food laws. The diet is very healthy and by choosing to do so you are honoring God. If you set for yourselves standards , and live up to them this is well and pleasing to God. This of course applies to standards greater than or equal to God's minimum standards. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 8:8

But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

He was referring here to meat sacrificed to idols .Paul then goes on to say In 1 Corinthians 8 -10 that we should not cause our Christian brothers to stumble by our own beliefs. For instance you have decided to follow the Kosher diet but you have always loved Australian lobster tail. I would not start eating a lobster tail in your presence because you have deemed it not acceptable for yourself. I will not cause you to be tempted.

Also Paul said in Romans 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

So we see that what you are doing is perfectly acceptable before God and no man should condemn you for it.

Now lastly Paul said in 1 Cor 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

The dietary food laws are mandatory for Jews. Gentile Christians are under the law laid down in Acts 15:29

That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
