When I look back, I feel regret after regret. Regret about going to the wrong school, regret about being friends with the wrong people. I feel that I have not maximised and made the most out of the opportunity available. I feel that I have missed out on good things in life as well as in the world.

How does one deal with such a feeling???

When I think about the times when I didn't realise my full potential and as a result I under-performed and I under achieved, those memories are the hardest to deal with. These include times in my academic and professional career, personal life, in regards to health and fitness, in regards to relationships, sex and love etc.

Sorry if I am repeating this. I would like to get maximum feedback.

that...happened to me...

i just stop looking back and start looking forth. everything happens for a reason. what's done is done. you have two choices in this: keep looking to the past so you'll live in regret and bitterness,.....or.....you could fix the present and save the future by simply learning from your mistakes. God knows what's best for you. so your failure path in the past might have been for better future.

life is about making decisions. sometimes we're right, sometimes we're wrong. making the wrong decision is not the end of the world. you'll be given the second chance, the third, and so on.

i thing you should remember, life is about ups and downs. problems are making you stronger and a better person. without misery, there won't be happiness. the reason why we're happy is because we know what's like to feel in pain, in trouble, in misery.

just get over the things you regret. forget the past. learn from your mistakes and move on. dont add more regrets by ignoring the present. you'll just make it endless. start making things right now, time to act, and time to be a man.

It's NOT too late!!! In fact some of the most successful self-employed business people were high school drop outs or dunces. Look at your past as being a lesson and the fact that you know you can do better is just the beginning of a very successful journey. You are never too old, and there a millions of different opportunities out there, just select something which you enjoy doing and build upon it.
With relationships, health and fitness....set yourself some goals, in fact write down everything you would like in your life, then write down reasons why you can or can't achieve them. Be honest with yourself..... and look forward instead of back!!!
Good Luck!!!

Unfortunately, feeling regret would not be felt if you could rewind your life and do it differently. So you are just going to have to regret. BUT, use that feeling of regret to make sure you don't make more any such errors.

Look at your abilities now and look at your age and realistic desires that you have.

Then reach out and try to achieve them. Live your life to the full and do whatever your heart desires. BUT, dont hurt anyone in the process. Make sure you don't selfishly reach out for your desires and forget that there are people around you that care and love for you. Because in the process of trying to reach your goals, dont turn round in many years time to find that what you regret most is not giving love back to someone that cares for you now. . . or you could grow old feeling lonely in your life and disrespected...that really would be very regretful.

in my opinion i don't think that you should regret anything that has happened in your life.i know that it hard to understand but all of the things that have happened make you the person that you are today. I regret certain things that i did but i just think that once you do something, you should learn from it and try not to regret. When your old and grey and look back on your life, you should see everything as an experience and not a regret because what is the point in living a life of regret when you could live your life full of fun instead. There's no point in wishing that you had did something different because you can't change it but ur can make sure you don't regret things in the future. I no that everyone regrets something in their lives, its hard not to but just enjoy life and don't live thinking about all of the regret.

God you sound like you regret a lot - why did you screw up in all these areas all the time? I think that is doubtful.

You need to move on and realise now you know you can go about living the life you want to right now rather than living in the past or 'planning' the future. Its about the here and now. Nothing is holding you back.

Yep-been there done that. Without the chance of sounding ridiculous, I have a religion-Christian, which has stopped me from beating on myself and having all the regret I had before.
But if you don't have that, you can start with small accomplishments toward your goals, still-no matter how old you are.
Take one or two classes every semester or online. Volunteer in an area that interests you-this will make you feel worthwhile and that you're giving back.
Good Luck to you....

Accept what happened as being in the past, without time travel they cannot be completely be undone.

In some cases they can however be worked on or resolved.

Life is about learning, things happen as part of a process, if we didnt make mistakes and have regrets we would all be super-human beings.

Learn from your mistakes and the things you regret, so that you can avoid making them again.

Yes your problem is that you are not perfect. A very famous American psychologist, Abraham Maslow (1908-1970), said "I can feel guilty about the past, apprehensive about the future, but only in the present can I act."

What you need is something that can help you with all negative emotions including sadness, guilt and fear. See site below to see what psychologists have found to help with this so regret can FLOW away. You can learn to live in the present which is the secret to supreme happiness.

Kahlil Gibran, author of The Prophet, says "There is a cup of joy inside of you, but you cannot drink from it save [unless] you forget the past and renounce the future." To renounce (give up or refuse) means to have nothing to do with it anymore.

hi.there is nothing you can do to bring these opportunities back,so,acknowledge them and move on,just make sure you don`t miss out on any that come your way in the future.Everyone regrets something somewhere in their life,it is human nature,so don`t feel bad and beat yourself up over it ,it is in the past let is stay there. Look to a future where you do the things that you want to ,make sure you have nothing to regret from now on.TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE,make the most of it .xx

Everything happens for a reason. You should learn something from every good and bad experience in your life. I dont regret any of my bad decisions, instead I take them as a learning experience and move along with my life hoping to never make that decision again. If you dwele on regret you will lower your self esteem. So my advice is to just move along with your life.
