Because then EVERYONE will want to know what Mormonism is all about, and they'll find out how seriously weird it really is.

As it stands, most people think it's a normal Protestant denomination. Very wrong.

Beta: But with the missionaries, the people are finding out about it YOUR WAY, with milk before meat. Now they'll get it full force and they won't be able to digest it.

Their membership would fall drastically in the following 5 years, that's what would happen.

you're funny meat bot. The LDS church has survived way more dire circumstances than scrutiny or a politician.

What power shall stay the heavens? As well might man stretch forth his puny arm to stop the Missouri river in its decreed course, or to turn it up stream, as to hinder the Almighty from pouring down knowledge from heaven upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints.

How would it destroy the church? Take this thought a step further and I might answer your question with my opinion

If everyone wants to find out about the church b/c of Romney--bring it on. They will find out how seriously weird it isn't

LOL

Yes, whatever we do...we don't want people to find out about our church. That's why we have 60,000+ missionaries out teaching people about it. That's why Gordon Hinckley has been on TV all those times, telling people about the church. It's all a concerted effort to keep people from learning about our church.

Thanks for the good advice.... ;-)

I've been to the Mormon church. I know their beliefs and guess what...It's not weird! So that blows your "destruction theory" out
